Hi there! I created a new topic for this as my post in the bareboners thread does not seem to attract attention.

I got my 16F3 barebonea yesterday and everything went smooth after doing a clean install. I went straight to playing SWTOR right after nvidia graphics driver installation and dx11 went through without restart and was able to play it flawlessly at max settings.

Several restarts later I got an error msg from the nvidia control panel saying it cannot detect an nvidia graphics hardware and needs to be closed. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the 306.7 driver (or. 97, the latest one from the website) and I got the "this driver could not find compatible graphics hardware." error msg. I already tried the default driver from the cd and several other drivers but all have the same issue. I also did a reformat and tried installing the intel vga then the nvidia driver but im getting the same error. I would also like to note that the 680m is not listed in the device manager and there is no unknown device listed.

On my third reformat the fans started spinning at max speed during windows 7 pro installation and a few minutes after logging in to windows. Can anyone please assist me with this issue? This is really frustrating as this is my first high end barebone laptop and im having this issues at day one.

You may have a faulty graphics card. Have you contacted your reseller?

You could use a usb bootable dos stick with nvflash and do a lookup to see if the card is seen (nvflash --i)

Hi Meaker, yup I have already contacted them and they said they will send me an updated BIOS but Im not sure if that will solve my issue as it is being detected previously. Is there any guide I could use to accomplish this as it is my first time going to use the nvflash and I dont want anything that could void my warranty. Thanks!

    -edit-

okay i created a bootable DOS flashdisk and tried running nvflash /? but its giving me a General Protection Fault error and the system froze. Is there any other way I could check if the card can is still seen by my laptop?

    -edit-

reformated the flashdisk and tried running nvflash again and i am not getting the GPF previously. the nvflash --i is not doing anything to me but display the commands just like using /? so i tried --display and --version and its telling me that there is no NVIDIA display adapter found. I guess the gpu is indeed faulty. thanks Meaker for the nvflash tip.

Your 680M is faulty - happened to few GT60/GT70 0NE users with the exact same symptoms - the next step is to send it back to the reseller I'm afraid :(

Damn yeah, if it's not seen by NVFLASH in DOS mode then the card is dead.

I suppose you could not persuade them to send out just the card? Oh well, the soon it gets done the sooner you get a working machine back.

I have thought about it earlier and mentioned it to their rep but I decided to just sent it back to have it thoroughly checked for other issues as well.

Okay I got the replacement laptop today. I'm disappointed because they said I will be receiving a new unit but I did a check on the serial under the battery and found the same serial number from my previous unit. Heck even the windows installation that I made initially when I sent it to them was still there. The only difference is Windows 7 pro is now activated and I can see the killer nic 1202 is now installed ( I bought these two as an upgrade after I returned it to them) and the gtx 680m seems to be working now which is the most important part.

I will surely get back at them regarding this if I found more serious issues with it. I'm currently downloading Battlefield 3 and Crysis 2.Hopefully I wont find any more problems and finally enjoy this beast.

Well it's likely they just replaced the graphics card, if everything else worked with it, why roll the dice again?

Im not really sending it back again since i havent detected any issues so far. I was just disappointed that they promised an entirely new unit instead of replacing just the card. Anyway I havent really tested the card yet as i havent finished downloading bf3 yet but swtor worked perfectly just like before the card broke down on the previous card.

    -edit-

Okay after playing a few rounds of bf3 i can say that everything is in good condition. Im kinda concerned with the gpu temps though as it e goes mid low 80s sometimes. I guess i need to do some repasting and changing of the thermal pads when i get the funds. Thank you again meaker and paul for the posts.

You can try a repaste and use some high quality 0.5mm pads (I use phobya 5w/mk).

Also you can use pherein's fan control tools to make the fan profile more aggressive if you like.

Use the 16f2 profile by the way.
