So i've tested this several times and everytime i'm on AC power( when it is charging the battery or even when at 100% charged) my laptop's internal temps increase by quite a bit. As soon as i unplug it, they go back down.

GPU increases from 47C to 58C, and cpu temps increase by about 10 degrees as well.

I'm just wondering if this is the wrong power adapter. Can anyone from Xotic or power notebook confirm that this is supposed to come with a 19v output LITE-ON adapter? I've tested a much smaller gateway power adapter and it seemed to charge just fine. Can someone look into this? i dont wanna be overheating the laptop because i have the wrong adapter. thanks.

It would be best to contact your vendor directly...who did you buy it from?

Your description is a bit confusing: "...a 19v output LITE-ON battery?"

    Did you mean AC Adapter?

If you did, then it should be a 19V 4.74 Amp AC Adapter.

If that is what you have, and you think it is overheating (although your GPU temp is fine...it can go up to about 90-95C, and you don't say what your CPU temps are), then call Xoticpc's 24/7 Support line (unless you only bought barebone).

ah sorry, i meant adapter. thanks for the info. Yea i know the temps are fine. Just wondering why so much of a difference. Thanks Donald, you're always quick to respond.

I believe it is likely caused due to the fact a GPU becomes underclocked when on battery power in order to save battery. Therefore it runs cooler. That leads to the conclusion when plugged in the GPU clocks rev back up to normal and bang you have your increase in heat.

If that is the temperature while idle, then it's quite high. My MS-1651 idles at 36C (CPU) and 46 (GPU) on AC (same adapter with yours). No cooler or elevated back. I think you can start off by tightening the screws for the heatsinks, it might help.

What X2P said is exactly correct, when unplugged your notebook will throttle back the cpu/gpu. when plugged in the cpu/gpu will throttle up and the temps will increase...............

My GU temp hovers in the 56C to 63C range, is that to hot? Is there anything I can do to reduce that temperature? And, does it affect how long my GPU will last? Thanks.

idle or load? Thats hot if its idle. Mines usually idle around 40-50C

What do you mean exactly by idle or loaded? This is the temperature when i am on 'High Performance' for the power setting with maybe 5-10 applications (Opera, Word, Zune, OneNote, etc.). Thanks, also that is all with the power supply adapter plugged in.

that means it idle :p. Loaded means its playing a game that stresses it out (i.e. Crysis, which drives my CPU on one core to 95%-100% makes the GPU work hard to run it). Yours run significantly hotter than mine o_O. What is your room temp? Might explain it.

Did you measure temps while running a game that is demanding to both the CPU and the GPU? It usually heats the lappy up well, and gets you a rough measure of how hot it will get.

I'll do some temperature test while loaded and give the results. I'll load up the demos I have of Crysis, CoD4, FIFA 09 and some other games and stress the system.

Which driver do you currently have installed? I currently have driver version 7.15.11.7913 from http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/.

Also, are you using HWMonitor, NVIDIA MonitorView or another program to monitor temperatures?

Thanks for the help, if it seems my computer has unusually high idle temps or loaded temps I might contact PNB.

    I'm using MSI's driver.
HWMonitor and Everest are almost always on when I use my lappy :)

So ran monitors while playing FIFA 09, Crysis, and Company of Heroes demo. Upon exit from each temperatures around 70-73C for GPU.

Stats after playing Company of Heroes (last game played after FIFA 09 and Crysis demos):
    CPU Core 1 Peak - 70C
    CPU Core 2 Peak - 61C
    GPU Peak - 80C
    HDD Peak - 41C

This is without any raising of the laptop with a book to increase ventilation. I may run test later with a book under and see if the results change.

Do you have the free version of Everest? Can't seem to get the sensor part working on that version. Also, how did you get average values for your temperatures? Thanks.

    Those are normal temps.

    What was your room temperature?

I just ran crysis at 1280x800 and put hwmonitor on the side. I estimated the average value. If you want precise, take a video camera and put it on the side. After playing, do some quick calculations :).

I'm using a paid version of Everest, but hwmonitor usually serves me fine. Their measurements are more or less the same. Those temperatures are fine, just as long as your GPU doesn't reach over 90C, I wouldn't worry.

I was just searching notebook temps here and found this thread, not sure but these temps seem extremely high.

My notebook is an OCZ dual card with an T9600 CPU and this is what i have after a 3D06 run:

    CPU Core 1 Peak - 44C
    CPU Core 2 Peak - 46C
    GPU Peak - 58C

edit: did not have the peak

We are not talking about a 3dmark run. That barely stresses your computer out. Run Orthos while playing Crysis (lag :p) or something if you want to get more accurate peak temperatures.

His notebook does have higher temperatures than mine, but they are still OK.

When you talk dangerous temperatures (yes, I seen lots of them floating around)
    CPU Peak - 90C+ (m15x again)
GPU Peak - 100C+ (m15x does this lots)
Hard drive - 60C+ (Clevo M860Tu does this lots)

My temperatures have been running around 55-60C in High Performance mode while plugged in doing normal activities (Word processing, web browsing, etc), wanted to see what other people's idle temps were. Thanks

    XP SP3 Pro High Perf
    P8600 @ 2.4GHz
    Web Brwosing, etc. "light" functionality
    Both cores 45 - 46.
    GPU 55 - 60

    S.T.A.L.K.E.R. SoC (stress)
    80s Both cores
    95 GPU

    Linux Ubuntu 8.10 "light"
    35 - 38C both CPUs
    45 - 50C GPU

    no "stress" test ATM.

    Room temp 22C

(I have power management set more aggressively under linux as it seems to scale better to computational tasks, where XP seems to lag and otherwise make silly operational state changes. XP on battery power is set for max battery life, and i've really only used it outdoors -5 - 10C so CPU/GPU temps are always <30C.)
