Hey guys, I just wanted to check on the CPU compatibility for the MSI 1651. I am interested in putting in a T7300 socket P in the computer, but not sure whether it's compatible. I know the socket should fit fine, but do not know whether the comp will be able to work with it.

I also called some retailers about this, but they pretty much say that MSI specs say T7300 is not compatible, which seems more like a scheme to get you buy their new processors.

Anyone got any info on this?

The Montevina platform is backward compatible, so long story short, it should work without a problem.

Well, since we have such crappy pricing and availability in Canada, this only recently went on sale. It comes with a 7350 and I doubt much would have changed on the boards between it and the newer models, but I might be completely wrong.
I wouldn't be surprised if these actually were year old models liquidated from a major US vendor and resold as 'new'

It is not a scheme to get you to buy a newer cpu, the official answer last received from MSI was this cpu is NOT supported. Yes it is the same socket but you are talking about a cpu that is three generations old. If the cpu is not in the bios you will receive a micro-code error. This chassis officially supports 45nm cpu's only, which would bring you back to the SRR T8100 series cpu's. It may work but you could end up with some compatibility issues down the road or BSOD.

Here is the link from the msi site with the cpu specs:

Thanks for the quick replies guys. It would seem awfully silly for MSI to exclude it, especially since it's a whitebook.

Just to clarify, I meant that comment toward MSI, not RKComp. You guys have great service, which is why I called in the first place.

Anyways, I guess I'll make a phone call to the factory tomorrow and see what they come up with.

    EDIT:
Again, it would seem highly likely that T7300 would be supported, even some retailer claim so, http://www.hi-ficomputer.com/products.php?id=110.

Just wanted to make sure before I do anything silly.

T7xxx should work on any of the Montevina notebooks.
