Please note, this is not insider information, roadmap detail or info from MSI itself, simply a web link.

MSI's Mega Book MS-1057, the first Ultra Core Duo
To our knowledge (so we could be totally wrong here, but we like to take chances), this is the first real ultra (compact notebook) that is boosted with a Core Duo (or Solo, depending on the configuration). MSI releases this MS-1057 in Japan, and it should be available with a T2000 CPU (so a Duo) or a T1000 (a Solo). There are 2 DDR2 667 memory slots that can hold a max of 2GB of RAM, it has a 12.1" 1280x800 screen, Audio HD (Dolby Home Theater), a DL and RAM DVD burner, ExpressCard and you also get a (feeble) 1.5h of battery life with the 2200mAh battery or if you opt for the 4400mAh one, you get 4 hours. All this kit is squeezed into a 303x225x26mm and 1.9kg package.

obviously on the 1012 chassis - I'm hoping for a new look, not just for ease of build, but just to update it.

'Still loving my 1013! How much do you suspect one of these would run for in USD or CDN?

I haven't seen any indications that it will be stateside anytime soon. The Duos shouldn't cost much more than the older models at release time, though.

How much did a 1012 cost at US release? Just want to need to be comforted that I made the right decision. I'd hate to see that had I waited a month, I could get this for not too much more. Then again, such is the way the tech market works...

If I remember correctly, the S260 released at around $1400 fully equipped (lower end Pentium M, prebuild by MSI). The 1012 configured pretty similarly - the chassis cost didn't change much, just the components gradually coming down in price.

Don't second guess your purchase - this was a Japanese release model and I haven't seen it mentioned in the US market yet.

I don't know whether to feel jiped or just shrug my shoulder. I just ordered my MS-1013 with 2GB Ram, 80 GB HD, and MT-40...... and I could have just called my brother to get a MS-1057......

Oh well, I wanted AMD and I got AMD, not Intel.

By the way is Core Duo from Intel 64 bit or still 32 bit, not that it'll make much difference for the next 2-3 years but still....

Hopefully I'll have my system by early next week.

Core Duo is still 32-bit. I wouldn't worry too much about it, you'll have a pretty hellaciously powerful laptop for a long time.

So the S262 is now supposed to be a carbon fiber laptop (Japanese model release).

The prevois one, S260, had a magnesium alloy chassi, isn't it? What is better?

the carbon fiber should be lighter and a bit stronger, but I'm a fan of the magnesium alloy body, and the cost for carbon fiber is higher.

Is this your hope or do you have insight into that number? Well, I guess it's possible...the minimal RAM or none, CPU speed, no DVD/CD,...i.e., barebones, as they say. That would be really good!

I don't think that a fully configured system (even without OS) will come in around the $1K mark.

LOL...it was a funny...maybe wasn't obvious, enough...if they beef it up with all they're saying...it's got to be what the equivalent to the W5? or the Z33Ae's was/is...

If it's too much...I'm going for the Z33Ae
