I've had my 1036 since january and have been fairly pleased with it. Since about February I've had an issue with standby. If I put it in standby it will not come out of it. I hit the power button and it just shuts down. I am not sure if I'm supposed to hit another key or button instead. This issue has never really bothered me and still doesn't, but I am about to give this laptop to my brother and want to pass it on in full working order. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Is the status lamp flashing indicating the notebook is in standby?

The power button will bring it out but with a quick press, do not hold it down.

Do you have any external devices connected, USB, etc.

Which display drivers are you using?

Thank you for your response Rob. I'm glad to see an MSI reseller is still posting on this board. Unfortunately the reseller I used is MIA. The status lamp does flash. I just tried it. I gave the power button a quick press and nothing happened. Tried again with the same result. I do not have any external devices connected. I am currently using catalyst 6.8 drivers and system control manager 171.

Honestly it could any number of things, but if it was working and stopped chances are something you installed (driver/program) is either preventing it from properly going into standby or bringing it out.

If you can remember when it was functioning and you have restore points you can look through them to see what was installed around that time.

Usually the above items are the most common causes that we have found.

try going into your display driver settings and turn off powerplay.

Indeed the secret is remembering the event which occured (meaning what you changed/installed/configured) exactly before this happened.

On the other side, maybe you caught a virus on your notebook ?

Unfortunately for this there are many possibilities so an accurate answer would be impossible to get.
