For anyone specifically looking at the MSI 1029, here are my impressions with it. My configuration: AMD Turion MT-34 @ 1.86 GHz, 1 GB RAM, 60 GB hard drive @ 7200 rpm, Windows XP. I purchased it from Rawpowerpc.com (great reseller; check out their reviews on resellerratings.com).
Pros:
Sleek, small, and very nice-looking. Very thin (well, thinner than my old laptop but not as thin as a Vaio.) Also pretty light for such powerful features.
VERY fast! Programs load in the blink of an eye, and installing programs takes no time at all.
Four USB 2.0 ports are very convenient, if you need to hook up a wireless mouse, ipod, printer, and camera (like me!)
The widescreen is nice for web-browsing (no side-scrolling) and movie watching. Also, the glossy screen is beautiful.
The graphics are great, and The Sims 2 now runs flawlessly. No more saving every five minutes in anticipation of a crash/freeze!
I like the quick-launch buttons, specifically the wireless internet connection button, which allows me to disconnect with one push of a button.
I also like that the DVD-ROM drive is on the left-hand side, so it won't interfere with your mouse (if you have one).
So, basically, this is a laptop with great performance that can handle the newest games and anything else you throw at it.
Cons:
Unfortunately, no system is perfect, and there are a few features of this notebook that could be improved. First and foremost, the fan being on the right hand side is very annoying. If you want to use a mouse and have a lapdesk, the fan blows right on your hand, and can get pretty warm. (Assuming you're right-handed).
Secondly, the touch pad doesn't have a scroll feature or an off button. My old laptop had these features and I miss them. I can really live without the off button, but is there any way to add a scroll function to this touchpad by downloading new drivers or something? Does anyone know?
The screen isn't quite as bright as I would have hoped. It could have been brighter and a little sharper for the price.
The last thing is just a personal preference and a minor annoyance. When playing the Sims 2, since this is a widescreen computer, the game can look a bit stretched-out and flattened. I know this is so the game can fill the screen, but it takes some getting used to. I hardly notice it anymore but at first it bugged me a lot since I was so used to the full-screen version.
Summary:
Great performance; sleek looks; nice features; should last a few years (or more) and carry me into the 64-bit era. It would be nice to have a scrolling touch pad for web-browsing, and the fan is kinda in an awkward spot, but overall it is an awesome machine and I would definitely recommend it!![]()

You should be able to vertically scroll by moving your finger up or down along the right edge of the touch pad surface.
Glad you're pleased with your machine. -
for the touch pad you can get a newer version of the drivers 3.0.2.2 i believe...it has a feature where you can disable while typing or you can get the synaptics drivers and you can disable the touch pad completely. which is very nice.
