    Hello,

I have an MSI 1029 and I am having a hard time installing windows xp on it. When I installed Fedora Core 5 on one partition I had to run the installation in "text mode" or else it would go to a black screen and stop. After installed The black screen was also a problem when I tried to view the GUI, until I changed the drivers to a generic video setting.

Now I am trying to install windows on the 30gb I set aside on the drive but when I boot from cd the screen goes black after "Setup is detecting hardware configuration" is displayed.

    Can anyone help??

    Thanks!

First, what did you use for thermal compound on the GPU? (the stock "wax" pad is a P.O.S.)

Along with the GPU question, how long have you been running Core 5? (ie has the pad had enough time to break down?)

If its not video I dont have a 2nd clue.
