    Ok chaps,

I'm the stupid one who did not follow the instructions to the letter, I basically added a new hard disk to my msi 1029 laptop and didn’t bother putting it in its enclosure and the disk ended up touching the inside of the 1029 casing, since then it doesn’t boot. When I power on all that happens is I get a blue light and the cpu fan goes round. The CDROM and everything else is dead.... no screen no BIOS info nothing..... I must have blown something internal on the motherboard anybody know how I can fix this??? I suspect that this not an uncommon problem..... any suggestions or advice and at worst does anyone know where I can get a new motherboard from and how easy it is to fit???

    Thanks

Hopefully you found help elsewhere. (since we are slow here.)

But if you didnt, how big is the drive? (?GB)

If I remember my specs. correctly the 1029 wont take anything over 100GB.

Can you get it to POST or get to the BIOS w/o having a hard drive installed? If you can get to the motherboard, I'd see if you can clear the CMOS (either by jumper, or by removing the battery). That might let you boot it. Otherwise, take out all RAM, optical drives. Basically disconnect everything from the motherboard except the processor. Wait about 10 mins. Connect everything and try again.

If none of that works, you may have a fried mobo. Good luck!

Have you tried unplugging from the wall and taking the battery out? I have had similar symptoms before and removing the battery while it is not plugged in fixed it for me.

it should still be under warranty. have you tried sending it back to msi to repair it?
