Ok first off never buy the MSI - 1035, its the biggest POS ive ever seen. I am sad I spent $2000 bucks on it. Especially since dual core came out right after I got it..... Anyway one of the many flaws is the pivot points on the screen when you open and close the laptop. They are placed to far into the middle of the laptop and are to small. So when you open and close the screen the outside plastic on the screen have to much stress and slowly start to crack. Once I noticed this happening I started being EVEN more careful about opening and closing it but now it finally has cracked. Basically im wondering if its possible to replace the screen and if anyone knows how much and were to get the screen from. I did not buy it from MSI but I may give them a call if I have to. While im at it im also wondering if anyone knows what GPU's this laptop can handle. It came with a Geforce Go 6600 and they claim it can be upgraded but to what? Whats the limits and where do you buy a plain old GPU from? Anyway thanks!

Contact the reseller you purchased it through and they can setup an RMA for MSI to repair it.

As far as the GPU, the only MSI models i am aware of that are GPU upgradable are the 171544 and 171772.

If you cracked your display, then it's going to be an expensive repair. The MS-1029 uses an LTN-154X3-01 LCD from Samsung. If you just cracked the LCD cover then it should be very expensive. Call MSI and ask them how much to replace the cover.

I think I'm having much the same problem with my MS-1039. Just above the hinge the plastic has begun to crack under the stress of opening and closing, despite the fact that I have always been careful. See picture... I was wondering if there is any way to get the shell replaced preferably with aluminium.

Don't let it go any longer, contact your reseller and request the notebook repaired.
There is no other shell but the manufacture will repair the problem for you.

That's too bad, I was hoping I could replace the shell with something more durable. Looking at the construction from the outside, it seems that this will likely happen again regardless of how careful I am opening and closing it.

Well Rob, I bought it from you, but I can't send it off until Dec. 21/22. I need it too much for work and school to lose it right now.
