The classic problem of owning a laptop... My power jack had a slow death however, making poor contact causing arcs that melted the power jack and the plug on my AC adaptor.
My attempt at fixing this was to solder new wires directly to the motherboard, and use a pigtail with microphone plugs to replace MSI's crappy connector.
Everything I did works up to the motherboard(I read 19 volts w/ a multimeter right where I soldered on), but I can't get the battery to charge or the laptop to acknowledge that I have a power adaptor plugged in. I'm thinking that when the original connector melted, it shorted out and caused something else related to charging to stop working.
My problem at this point is that my battery is now completely dead, and I don't have a way of charging it. Does anyone know if the battery is recharged directly from the 19 volt power supply? Is it possible to "jump" power directly to the battery pack to charge it? I'd like to at least find a way to get the battery recharged so I can look into this further.
The other possibility is I forgot to plug something in when putting it back together, but I've taken it apart 3 times already and don't think I've missed anything at this point.

You might want to take a look at this: http://store.jcbarn.com/exbachsforas1.html It's a stop gap measure but at least you'll have a semi usable laptop...

Thanks - I don't see the MS-1722 as being a supported model though. I'm going to try and source a new motherboard or another ms-1722 for parts, or if I get tired of this enough, sell mine for parts.

Thanks, I don't have the laptop with me at the moment but I will check when I do. Interestingly enough, if this is the right charger, the voltage is 12.6 volts... different from the 19volt AC adaptor's voltage.
This might confirm my suspicion that something is screwed up with the charging system.
Also curious if anyone has sourced a motherboard replacement for these? I'll try to call msi tomorrow and find out if they are available, but being how cheap these are to replace it would surprise me if you could get repair parts for them. -
That'll work! Thanks for the link.
I just bought another MS-1722 for parts, so if I can't make that work then this will be my next solution. -
Alright
MS-1722 Power jack ripped out - help!
