Does anyone know if there are any shortcut keys I can press to access advanced bios? i have the latest bios for ms-171f but it is way too simple and there is not much you can do with it. I want to be able to access more advanced options...

oh ok, I was just making sure you had the current version that is out. as far as accessing any advanced BIOS options, I don't think there is anything more other than what is provided when you boot into the BIOS.

some other laptops have shortcuts for advanced setup, like FN+insert or Ctrl+F1. maybe ms-171f bios has something similar?

Have you tried the combination for MS-1722 (for sure) and MS-1651 (not sure) for advanced BIOS settings? Alt+Ins Try it and post is it happening.

I actually did try that combination from the Advanced tab, and all the other tabs as well, and the screan would blink quickly, but i still cannot see any advanced bios options.

    @AgentFluffy
Did you updated BIOS to it's latest version? Older versions do not support this option. Or maybe this model doesn't have advanced BIOS...

    @ Ariz
It depends how much you are ready to spend for them. What OS you will run? - 32bit or 64bit.

to Genna: I am planing on running OS Vista 64 Bit.
So, right now I have sach components as:
    Intel Core2 Duo T9400 2.53GHz 1066FSB 35W Socket P
    MAJOR 4GB DDR2 800Mhz PC2 800 2x 2GB SODIMM 4 GB G CL 5
Hitachi 0A57547 7200 RPM 320 GB SATA II 2.5" Laptop HDD
I am not sure if these are the right components for MS 171-F laptops, because when I put all of them in the laptop, it would not post, it also did not make any sounds, I tried to flash the BIOS and it did not help, so I would like to ask if you have any ideas about the right CPU, memory and HDD.

OK, first be sure that the CPU is placed correctly - I mean the screw that locks it clicks. Most of the people here that had problem this problem is excatly because their CPU is not fully locked. After start the laptop and see if it posts.
2nd - If still is not posting, then try placing one memory module at a time - change slots also.
HDD is OK. Try this and write what happens.

When you turn it on, does the lights light up? Firts time when you turned it does it started to charge the battery (battery indicator light lights green)?
If upmentioned conditions happened, try this:
Remove battery and AC supply cord, after hold on power button 5-10 seconds (this is to reset BIOS settings), then put all back and try to start it.

When I turn it on - the lights light up and yes, when I turned it on the first time it started to charge the battery (battery indicator light lights green).
I all ready removed the battery and AC supply cord, and after I held on the power button for up to 1 min. to reset BIOS settings it still has the same problem. I even removed the BIOS battery and waited for 5 min before putting it back in, but unfortunately that did not help either.
