    Hi,

I own a MSI GT60 Barebone (MS-16F3) for 5 years. A couple days ago, my GPU went dead. I need to replace it. GTX675m is easy to buy due to same heatsink, but I want to consider GTX870m or GTX880m (I don't have much money :( ). I know that these cards' heatsink are -especially the chipset- different than mine (GTX670m/675m is rectangle, others are square). If I buy a newer gen. card, do I have to modify my heatsink? If yes, how?

    Regards,

Have you checked eBay? Some of the newer ones may require modification of heatsink but some may not.

I checked eBay. Heatsink is different.

I checked them, but the member who did the upgrade hasn't been here since 2 Feb 2016. I don't think I can get help from him.

I remember someone posted about heatsink modifications needed explained in a picture. But, I couldn't find it now. I understand that I need to modifty the heatsink. I need a guide for that.

The mod is literally a 2 minute mod at most, and it's very obvious what needs to be ground off. The point is to take off enough to make the heatsink sit flush against the card.

Even without the picture, it's very obvious where it needs to me ground. You'll know you have taken enough when it sits flat on the card.

I did this, and I suck with tools. I'm confident you can be successful too. :)
