I finally got everything I neeeded to get my new 1652 up and running.
    2x 1gb DDR2-800
    160gig HD
    AMD TL-50 1.6ghz

When I press the power button all I get is the HD activity icon lights up, and the sleep icon lights up, I can hear the fan winding up. Nothing is displayed on the screen.

I am a little suspect of the CPU, for one it was a used CPU and only cost $16, second it is a S1 socket cpu, this laptop has a S1G2 socket. I did not know about his till after ordering the CPU. in doing some googling I found a couple stories where they said that a S1 will work in a S1g2, but I also found alot of posts and such where they said it would not work. The specs on MSI site say it supports Griffen S1G2 package.
So it is safe to say I need to get a differant CPu and stop being a cheapass?

I am now looking at getting a QL-60 which is a S1g2 package CPU

Before you go out and get another CPU, have you check if the cpu has
been seated properly? you have to turn that screw until it clicks... well,
you will know when to stop.

Yeah, I have double checked it. The AMD sockets have a little tab on the set screw that shows it is fully engaged.

Ordered the QL-60 but I am wondering if the symptoms listed above sound like a CPU issue or not. I only have so long before I can't RMA anylonger.

I got a couple other quistions but dont think it warrents a new thread:
Does this laptop have an Infrared port? I dont see it mention in the specs.

, there was something else but now I cant remember, well if I do think of it I will edit this post again :D

    I remember now.
The laptop has 5 antenna wires. Theres 3 black labelled 1,2and 3, these are obviously the wireless N antenna.
Then theres the other 2, one Black, and one Grey. I believe the grey wire is for a TV Tuner, so whats the unmarked Black wire for?

I asked Rob at RK and he said that the extra gray wire on the 1651 is not used in the usa. The other gray is for the TV Tuner. So in your case the extra black may not be used for anything.

I don't know the inside view if 1652, but if this extra black wire is near the CPU and if it has washer on it, it is ground wire that you should screw it with the nearest screw holder of the fan. At least it's like that in 1722.

The extra black wire has the same connector as the other 4. I have gone thru the manuals and dont see it being mentioned at all.

Well I got my new CPU today, everything seems to be working fine so far. Still waiting on my network card so I will be stuck useing a USB network card.
I have windows installed now, I have one unknown item in device mananger, I have no idea what it is for, anyway to find out?

Might be the HDMI audio out, mine shows that as "Unknown Device" in XP, the card reader makes some extra "base system devices" but works fine, weird eh?

It was actually the SCM software that solved the issue with the unknown device.

And wheres the review you said you were working on, I been looking forward to it.

I can't do one myself, I have no camara and I really suck when it comes to writing anything longer than a paragraph or 2. but i will add a few thoughts here.

I really like my new laptop so far, still waiting on the network card so I dont have to use a USB or wired version. It will take some time to get use to the keyboard, I think it would have been better w/o the numpad and just make the rest of it normal sized instead a smashing everything together.
The Display is a TN model, viewing angle changes brightness level across the screen, this is the worst I have seen with this type of screen.

Another issue I have is that theres only 3 USB ports but after I get my network card it will free up one for other things like a VX Nano mouse.

Theres alot of heat coming out from the heatsink exhaust. The temps I have seen so far have all been in the upper 50s for both the CPU and GPU and this is at near idle. Not sure what they are under load yet but I will check it out.
