I slipstreamed the sata drivers and got all the way to my first boot into windows xp then i got bsod again. Is there anyway i can get xp on this thing?

Or you can go into the bios and set the hdd to ide mode and just install the driver later.

my xp is stuck at Setup is starting Windows

slipstreaming doesn't seem to work after installing windows, when getting to the boot it gets bsod. Using ide mode works great, right now i'm going to install the intel sata drivers and hopefully that will get rid of the problem

Correct it WILL NOT work after installing windows. You have to make a choice during setup. either ahci or ide, once ide is installed you cannot switch to ahci. -

What version windows cd do you have? sp1, sp2, sp3? If you are using anything older than sp2 it may not install. -

i have a SP3 and a SP2 cd, both freezes at "setup is starting windows" for a good 3-5mins, ATLEAST

You could re-try slip-streaming the drivers -> making new ISO image and THEN burn that image at the LOWEST speed that your burner will go.
Alternatively you could just re-burn the original image again at the LOWEST speed that your burner will go.
Also use good media, Verbatim, Sony, TDK, etc. not cheap genero garbage(sometimes you get lucky and get a good brand under generic but most of the time it's just the garbage).
Installing XP works, as I installed XP Pro SP3 (slipstreamed copy) onto a 1651 in IDE compatibility mode. -

what do you guys mean by slipstreamed? and a quick update, i was just testing out the load up with battery only no boot to desktop then i took out battery and hooked up to AC power only and it boots to desktop. can i stick my battery back in while its on at this point or is that dangerous? or something..

I find it strange that robm says it can't be done...given that I've done it on the MSI and my Thinkpads.
install IDE (always BSOD'd before I got to hdd select, and I was using a USB floppy for it), then installed the AHCI drivers off the floppy after it was installed. Switched the drives to AHCI in the BIOS, and booted back up without issue. -
Getting the barebone up and running with WinXP Home was pretty easy. I had to use another Computer to download the device drivers off the MSI site, because the Driver Disc is basically for Vista, so the Wireless and Ethernet wouldn't install. The Ethernet, because it was the wrong driver and the wireless because Intel wants to update some services on Windows prior to installing the Wireless Device Drivers; so I couldn't reach the Internet without Ethernet and/or wireless. [Probably could have used a USB wireless Thumb Drive if I had one....]
But with the device drivers available from a MSI download on a PC ExpressCard SSD, everything took off as soon as I updated the Intel Chipset. I would update that device driver first, as it supports the other devices.
I did get the BSOD on reboot when I flashed the Bios and System Firmware, but that is because the Laptop gets reset to the defaults ---> which includes ACHI enabled. Switching it back to IDE in bios popped me right back into smooth WinXP booting.
It was probably the easiest build that I have done, but then I was doing a fresh WinXP install on a blank Drive...
I have another barebone coming, and this time I will try using MigrateEasy to update the Hard Drive, and then hopefully install the Drive, flash the bios and then the firmware.
Hope that some of this information helps you. I am sure that it is a minor issue that is probably causing the problem for you...
MS-1651 will not let me install windows xp, incompatible?
