I just bought a MS-1651 notebook from this forum. The thing is when I start up the computer it shows the screen with 3 options: 1. tab 2. del. 3. F11 and the word Intel. I hit the keys but nothing happens. Anyone know what's going on with the computer?

If you hit Delete on the laptop keyboard nothing happens? If nothing happens something could be wrong with your keyboard. Hitting Delete when it first starts up should take you to the bios.

Hitting the key for any of the option does nothing, it just stays at that screen.

    Edit:

Now hitting del gets me to a screen that says

Press F12 key for LAN Boot
Press F11 key for Boot Menu
    Initializing USB Controllers .. Done.
    4096MB OK

And now it gets stuck here..... plus there's a bunch of dots colored dots on the screen, dono if it's dead pixels or what.

Take a pic and post of the dots please, sounds like either stuck pixels or some other problem..

Could be a few things, CPU or memory are most likely.

What CPU do you have installed? ( Is it a retail or ES?)

What brand memory, speed, etc do you have installed?

It's impossible to take a good screenshot because the glare screen just shows a picture of me with the camera. There's a P8400 in there (retail or oem) that replaced a T7300 ES. The memory is Crucial 2x2gb DDR2-800. BIOS version is 1.0E, could BIOS support be a problem?

I'm gonna put the t7300 back in cuz it was shown to be working in screen shots. If it works does it mean the p8400 is bad?

The P8400 always worked out of the box from the initial release on this model so the bios should not be an issue. I would remove the memory and try 1 stick at a time first to see if that resolves anything. If it does not then go for the CPU swap.

I swapped the t7300 ES back in and i can get into bios. The screen pixel thing is random, i tink it's just jitters that you see sometimes like during the windows boot logo. I'm gonna install xp on it first to see if anything is really wrong with the screen. Any clue why as to the P8400 will not work?

It should be fine with the P8400 but now that you have it bootable with the T7300 update your bios and firmware. Then you can recheck the P8400 and see if the bios and firmware resolved that.

Bios and firmware can be found here:

    Bios update instructions here:

Okay, I have xp installed on there and the lcd is perfectly fine using the lcd test. Now, this thing runs pretty hot, is this suppose to be the case? I noticed the heatsink is pretty small but the palm rest is very uncomfortable with the high temp. Now, before I do any more swapping what kind of TIM should I use to replace the tapes that feel "used and dirty" right now? I currently have Arctic Ceranmique for the cpu and gpu and the original TIM for the video memory and chipset.

Btw, my p8400 is is SLGFC and cpuworld indicated this is a new stepping. Could this be the problem?

Edit: found this http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?p=4620091 Exact same problem I'm having except with a different cpu, guess I have to update the BIOS.

The arctic is fine on the cpu and gpu, the thicker TIM DO NOT replace with arctic. For the cpu is is possible that is the problem, do the bios and firmware update with your other cpu and test the P8400 after.

This might seem like a stupid question, but do I have to install/slipstream Intel matrix storage driver if I enable ACHI in bios to get full performance?

Also, the wireless key on the sensor pad is not able to control control my wireless at all, and I have system control manager installed.
