Well, after almost two years of hardy service, the fan on my MS-1651 appears to be starting to break down, as it is getting mighty noisy. The fact that work took me to Mexico to work in a rather hot and dusty environment probably didn't help either.

I tried to get rid of the noise by cleaning the fan, but to no avail. So now I'm thinking I might need to replace it. So, here is the question: can I replace only the fan or do I need to replace the whole heatsink module?

    Any help will be appreciated.

I called MSI about a new heatsink which I ordered. They told me it comes with the fan so I doubt you can get it separately from them. On a good note, the heatsink was $20 shipped! You may also be able to find the fan on e-bay using the model number. Just make sure to check the dimensions. I'm pretty sure the connector is standard.

    Thanks for the reply kosti.

I've been looking for the heatsink on e-bay (and google) using the part number ( E32-0900531-F05), with little luck.

How did you contact MSI? I'll surely give them a call if the heatsink costs $20!!

Yes, I worked my charm. I have to wait a while before I get it because there is no ETA on it since it's a new model. What I can't understand, and I asked Warner (the same guy with the VBIOS), is how does a company release a new model and not have a ready supply of spare parts. In other words, let's say your heatsink fan dies, you send it in to MSI for repair, then they have to wait for the heatsink to come from China or wherever it's made? And there's no ETA on it! Makes no sense and it's a little scary quite frankly.

You can buy the fan seperatly. Just check ebay for that model. The fan is also used in some dell notebooks.
