I have a MS-1651 with the hidden turbo key with a core 2 x7800 and whenever I use the turbo button the laptop just freezes. I have heard this is due to the laptop not liking (best I can put it) 800mhz fsb cpus, with the turbo only working with 1066 fsb cpus. I am considering selling my x7800 and picking up a P9500 if this is the case. Has anyone got the turbo function to work with any chips or with the 7000 series chips? Also is the any other way to OC the x7800 besides the turbo since bios OC is not supported with the ms-1651 bios, I just feel like the x7800s abilities are going to waste? Sorry for all the questions but new to the laptop game, Thanks for your guys help.

Maybe you could contact MSI and ask them directly?

First time I've read about the 800mhz FSB thing but I can confirm that my t7500 (800mhz) and t5750 (667mhz) freeze upon Turbo operation.

I have one of these Laptops with a T9600 [the first one I built] and the other with a P9500. These Laptops tend to run a little hot anyway, so I like the performance of the P9500. With a conservative 15% Turbo boost, it runs cooler and performs in step with the T9600. I tend to not boost the T9600 due to it's heat, while boosting really seems reasonable with the P9500 chip.

I think you won't loose anything with the CPU swap. And the P9500 can be a good price too...

yeah there isn't much information available what chips work with the turbo function and which ones don't. From my experiences and the stig's it would seem there may be something to the fsb issue. I think I will be picking up a p9500 now so I will report if the turbo suddenly works with it. Thanks for your guys help.

Both of these CPUs worked in a barebone prior to bios flash.

I have tried both the 15% and 20% boost with both processors, and they seem stable. If a second fan was available or if I were using a cooler, I would consider boosting the T9600. But frankly it runs fast enough for my apps, I don't run games on it at all. I have a Clevo D901C for that...

I just picked up a p9500 so that will be going in within the week, now I just need to sell my x7800. I liked the x7800 but if you can't overclock it whats the point of the extra power it takes. Thanks for your help AlanP.
