Hey, new user...just found this forum attempting to find a way to fix my problem. Basically I bought an MS-1651 model from IBuyPower over a year ago, and the right hinge connecting the monitor to the body started cracking a few months back, finally breaking today. Not only am I out of warranty, but I can't really go without this for 4-5 weeks as I use it for school/work.

So essentially what I'm looking to do is replace the casing on my own. I found the parts for sale for around $150 combined but I'm looking for alternatives, such as if anyone's simply selling the screen, parts, other sites, etc. Also I'm wondering how successful others have been attempting this and if it's worth doing myself. I take apart electronics fairly often with success so that shouldn't be an issue, so I guess I'm just wondering about past experiences, tutorials, anything.

I appreciate the help in advance and hopefully I'm not screwed. Thanks!

I'm not sure what parts you have, but here is the service manual:

Thanks, that is awesome. That should help a ton. As of right now I don't have any of the spare parts I need. I contacted a guy on eBay but he wants like $150 for both parts (front and back plates). I'm waiting to here back from MSI on how much they want. Any better options?

Yea, that's the place I was talking about that wanted $150. I can't imagine I can't get it for less. Also, has anyone done something similar? Is it going to be a pain to re-seat the monitor and what not?

I took my notebook completely appart, it's boring to put it back together but not really a pain.

Anyway, these all have the common problem with the plastic around the screen cracking.

Maybe they used better plastic on the GX640 and you might be able to use the screen from that.
