    Hi all,

I am back to work on my MS-1057 after an extended lend of the machine to my Dad (I was trying to sell, but Dad needed a computer).

I would like some help to max the machine out. From looking back at the spec sheet, it now looks like the main bottleneck for performance will be the hard drive.

Here's the new parts I've chosen:

    FileMate 48GB Express Card

    RAM - 2x2GB

My concern is the processor and hard drive. I would like to go to Core2Duo but want to make sure the processor will work. I thought I read that the MS-1057 is Socket M, so I'm concerned if something like this will work:

Please help me find the fastest processor I can use.

Also, I'd like suggestions for the hard drive. Since I have a Seagate Momentus 160 gb in there, the current plan is to leave it and run the OS off of the FileMate SSD.

    Thoughts? Suggestions? Any help appreciated.

There are two different model MS-1057 notebooks, one supports IDE hard drives and the other supports SATA hard drives.

The bios is limited in this model and i am pretty sure you will not be able to boot off the express card.

For the cpu i think the max you can use in this model would be T7700, T7600, T7400, T7200 (to use these these cpu's you would also have to have the latest bios). From what i remenber they did not support the T7500 line but i could be mistaken.

    Hi Rob,

Do you know if bios v2.56 is high enough to support T7700? I have been trying to create a bootable cd for upgrading the bios and have failed miserably.

Do I even need to bother?

I am pretty sure the support for that cpu was implemented in bios 2.40 so you should be OK. I was just trying to check the msi site but it is down right now.

    Hey Rob,

Got my T7700 yesterday. But it doesn't fit! :(

It seems the T7700 is socket P and I needed to get socket M. Was there a second version of the 1057 that used the socket P?

Anyway, I'm going to order a T7600 and see how that goes.

    Thanks for your help.
