    Hi,

I'm new to this forum and want to build my own laptop. From my research I have found that the best fit for me is the MS-1013, however I live in Canada and have noted that I will have to get the laptop bearbone shipped from the US for the cheapest setup. The S270 package is just too expensive to buy and upgrade right away.

    The setup I want:
    MS-1013 - White model
    80GB 7200RPM HD
    Intel Pro Wireless 2915a/b/g
    Turion MT-40 2.2GHz 25W - 1MB Cache
    2GB DDR 400 - 2 x 1GB

    1. Is there a list of approved ram?
I want to get 2 gb ram either 333 or 400 mhz, but I really don't want to have to ship it back... I would prefer 400 mhz ram, but I don't know which brand or model/ID to get.

    2. Would manufacturers warranty still be valid in Canada even if it is bought from the US?

    3. I would like to have a/b/g wi-fi, however I an unsure if this is wize with this laptop. Has any one used Intel WM3B2915ABNGA card found at this link:

    http://www.ewiz.com/detail.php?name=INT-2915R

    4. Finally I have found that ewiz will ship to Canada at a decent price and parts are resenable but I really don't know their reputation or if there is some one cheaper/better to get the parts. Should I stay away or would they be fine?

Finally, the question about ram is not money, more reliability/perfect fit with this system. I prefer spending a bit more on RAM that I know will work great with this system than returning it.

    Thanks

    1. Approved RAM is Kingston or SuperTalent.
    2. 2gb will run at 400mhz. SuperTalent is recommended.
    3. Warranty is valid worldwide, but all goes through the reseller.
    4. The 2915 card works with the 1013.
    5. Ewiz is fine.

I don't know about ewiz...I mean they ship everything too you fine, but there was somthing weird about mine. When you buy from them they ship you the thing with no logos, that cool besides the fact that there is now an exposed LCD on your computer now. I have e-mailed them 5 days ago about maybe getting a basic MSI logo to affix to that spot but nothing yet.

    Just be careful.

-Speaking of the 1013, the graphics module is the "ATI RadeonĀ® Xpress 200M", which is the X300 (right?), Can that run world of warcraft fine? Would it run it better than the Radeon 9550 in the ibook?

the 200m is decent for integrated graphics, but won't be running many games well - I've heard that WoW plays okay, lower framerates though.

Actually no logo is fine with me, I was debating whether to paint the cover any way. Probably will do it after t he warranty runs out.

Thanks for the info about the RAM CoffeeShark. I'll order tonight.

my 1013 from rawpowerpc has no logos either... I like that and don't like that atthe same time. I like having a laptop with no logo but then again, I want to spread the good word of MSI everywhere!

I have the PRO2915 in mine and it works just like it does in Centrino setups; perfectly!

My one gig of ram is running at 400, it just came like that and I have yet to encounter that white screen of death people say can happen... although I think it happens more for people running 64bit. Keep in mind if your getting the 2915, Intel has no 64bit support for it so don't even think about anything but 32bit.

MS-1029 also has a hole on the lid, it looks horrible!

How do you guys find that having no MSI logos on the notebook is nice?? It must look like a xing-ling generic laptop

MSI, AMD and ATI logos are nice

The 1013 has no indentation for a badge. The old MSI S270s had "MSI" in silver 'stickers' on the front.

The 1029, 1036, etc have the hold - MSI did manage to get us some stickers for use on some of the models, but not many extras. Both Unleaded and I are trying to scare up some more, we'll keep you updated. Unless you're cramming your laptop into a bag full of Twinkie crumbles, you should be all right for a while without a badge.

I could see how it could suck, my lid is plain and flat, no hole, no logo. that i like! Hope you guys get u'r badges cuz I won't stand for that either, having a stupid hole on something that cost an arm and a leg.
