    Hi,

I just purchased a MS-1012 whitebook, which I built up last night. It's my first notebook build, but all seemed to go smoothly; unfortunately, it doesn't boot. Power comes on, CPU fan runs, HDD makes some initial noise...then nothing.

The helpful answers to others' questions in this forum confirmed my feeling that memory is the prime suspect. I ran out of time and haven't yet done further troubleshooting. But I wanted to see if anyone had specific experience with memory speed in this notebook.

I bought two 512-Mb modules, Kingston PC3200 DDR 400 (KVR400X64SC3A/512). The MS-1012 was specifically listed in Kingston's online database, and this was the memory suggested for it.

However, I subsequently looked at MSI's notebook FAQ, and they have a table of CPUs and memory for the MS-1012 I didn't see before purchase. Their table lists only DDR 333 in their list of Kingston memory. Does anyone out there have a 1012 running with DDR 400?

Any troubleshooting ideas other than swapping sockets and trying the two modules separately would be appreciated.

    Thanks!

make sure your fsb jumpers are correctly set for 400mhz/533mhz. For some reason, the 1012 won't post if they don't match the CPU.

You may have to change the ram jumpers for that. The DDR 400 should downclock to DDR333.

Also, bzo is correct. Be sure the CPU jumpers are correctly set.

Thanks for the encouragement. Jumpers were right; turns out one of the RAM modules wasn't quite seated right. All is well, whew!

Hello, im a newbie here. You mentioned RAM jumpers. Is it possible that the DDR333 running at only 250 (125) is because the jumpers were set incorrectly. I got my MS-1012 with both processor and memory pre-installed by the vendor. When I benchmarked with both everest and sis sandra, result shows very poor performance on memory speed because of the bus speed is only at 125 (DDR250). Im sure they installed a 512MB DDR333 because I already went back to the vendor to claim warranty (DVD combo drive not writing) and I asked to see the memory.
The memory jumper is not included in the assembly manual posted in MS-1012 assembly manual.
Could you please tell me the correct jumper (dip switch) setting and other options possible to solve my problem.

    Thanks
