    Hi!

While trying to fix the backlight and speakers (cables broke somewhere near the LCD hinge), I did something I thought would be harmless:

Pulled out the power adapter while WinXP was shutting down (got impatient) and battery was not connected.

The next time I turned on the laptop (with battery and power adapter connected), it would only display the MSI logo (with the message "press <del> to enter setup") and then turn off (CPU fan off, LCD off, everything off) itself after 5 seconds.

Pressing the power button again doesn't do anything. The battery and AC adapter has to be removed and only then the laptop can respond to the power button. But it will turn itself off after 5 seconds.

Has anyone encountered this problem before? Can I still revive my laptop? How?

    Thanks in advance!

    -Joey

If there is a CMOS battery on the motherboard, try removing it for about an hour then installing it back in to see if it will reset it. The CMOS battery *usually* is like a big watch battery. I hope this helps. God Bless :)

Removing the battery didn't help. :(

But you gave me a clue. :)
I may have chosen hibernate instead of shutdown before I pulled the plug.
I think WinXP writes something to the BIOS chip on a hibernate, because my dual-boot to Linux isn't available if I do a hibernate.

I may have pulled the plug at the moment the BIOS chip was being written to, possibly damaging it. If the BIOS was corrupted, how can I reflash it? I don't suppose booting from floppy would be possible because the laptop shuts down even before it searches for the boot device.

    Thanks again!
