Today i got my laptop from Xoticpc after 2.5 weeks of waiting. I tried to play one of my favorite steam games which is America's Army: Proving grounds but could not because my frame rate would vary between 19 frames and some times it would go to 40 but for the most part it was in the low 20's. This is with the graphics at 1024 x 768. I had Xoticpc reinstall the os so the bloatware is out but i do not know if that affected any of the settings the MSI originally came with. The 19 to 40 frames is with the laptop plugged in. Can anyone help me with this problem?

    CPU is i7-4720hq
    GPU is 3gb 970m.

It sounds like you may be using the on-board graphics. Easiest way to tell is look at the power button, it should light up when the 970m is being used, then blue when it switched back to the iGPU.

I have never set it up myself, but on the MSI driver download page, it gives you a certain order in which you must install the drivers.

Make sure you're power settings are on High Performance.

Have you tried any other games to see if they are under performing as well?

Running 3DMark is also a good way to check to see if your performance is on par.

I think 3d mark detected it, but even then my scores are very low.

SCOREP4693 with NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970M(1x) and Intel Core i7-4720HQ
    Graphics Score
    7057
    Physics Score
    2375
    Combined Score
    2293

What is going on with my graphics card

If you want to run every applications under 970M
    Right click on desktop

and select 970M as preferred graphics processor

But, remember this setting will drain the battery faster when your laptop is not plugged in.

Scores look good, even better then average scores for the 970M.

zizimonzter instructions are perfect to assign programs to use the 970M.

My question is: AA: Proving grounds is a steam game that must be launched through steam. I used the method by monzter and made steam has high performance nvidia only. Even then the game will not launch with my dedicated graphics. Any tips or insight?

Try to set it individually then, on my picture click on program settings tab and select the game and choose nvidia.
