Im looking to buy a gaming laptop now before windows 8 comes out and im stuck with it. and noticed that some of the MSI gaming laptops go for alot less vs an alienware with the same specs. thats why im digging for an MSI.

But I noticed alot of the MSI laptops have the Anti glare screen. more matted finish. I actually like the Glossy screen more cause the colors stick out more. but which series should I look for Regarding the MSI with the GLossy finish with a 17' screen ?

Also is it easy to replace the disc drives on the 17" models ? I dont want to spend another 300 bucks just for a blu ray drive. id rather get the dvd drive replaced.

hi chomper, check out the links at http://www.msi.com/product/nb/#?sk=Gaming Series for more info on the different devices. I really I think you will need to look at a reseller who provides customisations like GenTech PC who can swap out the matte screen for a glossy one. Looking at the MSI site, I think all the high end 17" (GT70 models) come stock with matte only.
A reseller who does customisations could also provide several options on the dvd/blu-ray or storage disk in place of optical.

Im not sure about the screen, but the optical drive is very easy. Just remove 1 screw, pop out the old one, swap retaining bracket (2 screws) put new one in and reinstall screw.

If you want Alienware with the best warranty on the planet you need to call them on the phone to haggle the price. You can easily save 20% off of the website price.

I don't personally know how good MSI warranty is as I haven't needed to use it yet, but when I was researching my laptop, warranty was one thing i looked into, and I found the same sort of bad feedback with alienware as any other laptop vendor.

check this out some of the links on this search - https://www.google.com.au/search?q=alienware+warranty+sucks

not saying that they don't compare well, and perhaps alienware warranty may be better than msi, but that's not to say its always going to be great experience for everyone. I know the apple international warranty is pretty hard to beat.

^ Nice post. Very much agree with you.
With every warranty service there are ups and downs.

Also, I have to point out something - Dell contracts laptops, as well as warranty services. Their laptops are not "Dell made" they are made by Compal, Wistron Flextronics ETC. Their warranties are provided by QLX depending on the type of warranty. These warranty providers are also used by HP and many other companies.

MSI is an Original Design Manufacturer (ODM). Their laptops are MSI made and designed, their warranties are provided by MSI. Just saying. At least you know where your getting the support from.

Yes, the video cards in the current-gen MSI laptops, even the GT60/70 have Optimus.

The screen can be swapped to glossy if you go through a reseller for upgrades/changes.

Everything on the GT60/70 laptops is actually really easy to access and work on, even the LCD so long as you are mechanically inclined. :)
