Hi, guys. I love my laptop and all of its house power but when I'm using it for productivity or just using light internet usage, I wish it has more life in battery than 3-4 hours. I currently own the 2014 GS70. I have the GPU to turn off on battery, screen about 40% brightness... Try done other battery/performance tweaker apps but, it's burning 100% in 3-4 hours even not having... Anyway to get more? Lately, I can't even game anymore so all I do is type docs and Internet, kinda makes me wish I had bought those smaller/longer battery life :/

Please share your settings if you get longer life...

    Thanks

download xtu from intel website, that program will allow you to undervolt and downclock cpu. You would have to experiment how much undervolt your cpu can take , probably 30-50mV at minimum (mine takes 85mV, but each is different). Once you do undervolt, limit maximum frequency for each core. This is little tricky, since you would need experiment to see at what point your laptop is too sluggish to be useful, but at least limit turbo frequency. Also shutdown Bluetooth and anything else not used by system at the moment, or even airplane mode if not using wifi. And if you really need more, get extra battery, the laptop is big enough that extra battery shouldn't make much difference.
on the other hand if you really need just internet access and very light use, maybe you should get something like chromebook or even tablet: some cost less than $200, almost an impulse buy.

Hi, thanks for your response. I'll definitely check out in that app. About the extra battery, I was looking for a more capacity one but turns out the battery isn't easily swappable - needs unscrewing and stuff...

Are you kidding? I thought only the newest ge62 and alike had non swappable battery, that is bad news. In that case look for universal battery like this:
    http://www.amazon.com/Xtend-Universal-External-Laptop-Battery/dp/B007TS56DM
It plugs where AC adapter goes and you could probably rig something up to hold it in place at the bottom (make sure you don't completely block venting holes). Just make sure it matches the voltage (probably 19.5v), polarity (probably + on center pole) and connector size.

The GS laptops all use an integrated battery for the sake of size. You can however replace them by opening the machine without too much hassle, you just can't easy swap on a flight for instance.

Yup, that's the case here. It's however easily replaceble for like charging a dead battery etc, but not for hot swaps.

Yes the cells are not glued in place like Apple, they are held down using simple Phillips screws.
