I noticed that my Hitachi 5K500 500GB was making a clunking noise every few seconds. i didn't know what this was but I opened HD Tune and I noticed that the Load Cycle Count is going up every time the hdd clicked. I have had my hdd for less than a week and the count is at 10700! Damn!

This prematurely ages the hdd. The fix for this is to download Hitachi's Feature Tool and run it on DOS mode. You also need to set within BIOS the hdd to IDE.

Then once the program is running you need to select the Hitachi hdd and change the power management by sliding the bar all the way to the right to 254.

I mention this fix because I know some of us have the 1TB RAID version of the GX660R.
