I have 2 128gb m.2 ssd's from an old laptop (GS60). I now have a new laptop (GT72) with 4 bays for m.2 ssd's, with only 1 filled (another 128gb).
The original 2 were raid0. Can I put these in the new laptop and recreate the raid0, and access the programs/make it the boot drive (it was previously the boot drive)?
If the above is possible, can I then make a backup/clone of the raid0 then wipe the drives and add the 3rd ssd (3 x m.s ssd raid0) and then install the backup/clone onto it for more space/speed?
Also, new laptop is probably win8.1 and old laptop had already been upgraded to win10.
New laptop arrives tomorrow.
Thanks, and I hope that makes sense.

I would suggest you create the backup right now using something like Acronis. You create a current backup of your RAId setup.
Then install the SSDs to your new machine, create a new RAID volume, and recover your backup onto the new RAID volume.
If you don't have access to the previous machine with the SSDs, I am not sure you can easily recreate and boot from the old raid. I have tried it with other machines and with winXP or 7 I was successful about 50% of the time, but ever since win8 etc, I can't even properly boot other drivers even if not raided, without having to restore the drive etc.
But definitely try it. First remove the current drive from the new machine and try to boot with the previous drives, setting them up as RAID on BIOS so that it picks up the raided ssds. If it does boot then you are good to go and try to save files. I don't recommend backing up with acronis because you will be full of useless programs and drivers from your previous machine, so you should just save important files.
Then power down, use the original SSD with your GT72, remove the previous SSDs, and boot up, set everything up, backup this sole drive with acronis. Now shutdown, install all 3 drives and create a new RAID volume, boot with acronis and restore your backup to the new raid volume and be happy!MiSJAH likes this. -
Thanks for the reply ryzeki, I no longer have the GS60 (see here - http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/ooops-goodbye-gs60-2pe.780164/).
Hopefully I'll be successful with just swapping the drives in. I'm thinking that upgrading to win10 on the new 128gb ssd so at least they are all on the same o/s? -

Usually intel raid sets can move over to another intel chipset, but not always.
