I'm debating whether or not to return my MSI MS-16GA and purchase a clevo W350ETQ? I like the MSI but I think the Clevo looks better built and more solid. When picking up the MSI I feel my fingers almost breaking the vents because of the plastic build quality. Also, the Clevo W350ETQ seems to allow you to add on a better screen for $75 more. I don't know how it compares to the screen on my MSI though. The Clevo states that it is a matte type 95% NTSC color gamut. Does anyone know how that would compare to my current screen? I love IPS and high quality screens (I know it's not an IPS) but if it's better than the MSI then it would really sway me. I also like the fact that the Clevo has an 8 Cell battery since I find the battery life of my MSI to be pretty crappy. Another thing that I really like about the Clevo is the ability to use two 2.5" drives. I was in the process of buying an msata SSD for the MSI since it doesn't allow two 2.5" drives but that would be a lot more hassle since I already have two 2.5" drives to use. Overall though, I am still very happy with the MSI.

Is there anything I should know about the two?

    Thanks for the help!

It sounds like you're convinced that the Clevo is the better system for what you want. Honestly, build quality is comparable between the two brands, as it the value IMO. The 95% NTSC screens look really nice too, but I've heard mixed comments on them for gaming; I think they're geared more for photo and video editing enthusiasts, or videophiles that want it for HD movies.

All in all though, you'd be getting a good machine either way.

Thanks for the info. I am also considering the MSI MS-16F33 but they seem pretty pricey.

I've also been having weird issues with the MSI MS-16GA too. The keyboard is acting up and not responding to presses some times. It causes me to mistype. Also, it's been freezing/locking up/black screen for no reason. Happens once or twice a day. Not really sure whats going on but it's annoying nonetheless.

How long have you had the issue with the keyboard? I know some keyboards - the Steelseries, for example - requires a bit of pressure on the keys for them to register. The freezing/locking up/black screen could be one (or more) of many things, but I would speculate first that it's hard drive related if it's intermittent.

Hi, it's happened every since i had the laptop. I am a heavy typist already (used to using buckling springs). For example the down arrow I have to apply extreme pressure to get it working. And when scrolling down, it will stop and I have to reapply the same pressure to get it going again. I've used this hard drive for a few months before I put it into the barebone without any issues or ever locking up.

I went ahead and purchased the MSI MS-16F32 (937-16F322-001). To be completely sure, this doesn't have backlit keyboard but it does have the ability to upgrade the video card right (and voiding warranty in the process)?

    Thanks for your help :)

Ah, well transferring a hard drive to another system can sometimes yield undesirable things. ;) But if that's the case then another likely cause would be display adapter (graphics chip) related - which I'm basing more on the black screen. The keyboard though just sounds like a lemon - unless the controller is bad.

While we don't carry the MSI MS-16F32, as far as I can tell, it does not have an illuminated keyboard. Not sure on the GPU for that model though.

Well it was formatted correctly so it was a blank drive and I used all the drivers provided to me by the media disc. I'm excited for the MS-16F3 though and I hope it's build quality is better than the GE60 barebone. Pretty sure it will be though! Wooo!
