I just bought a used GT70 (Dragon Edition) with the I7 4810 and 870m GPU for too good of a price to pas up.

I ran it through a few benchmark programs and a two hour stress test and it is working great however was just wondering if there are any quirks or potential problems with this specific series of MSI laptops that I should keep an eye out for.

Only thing you need to be aware of is maybe the hinges, they are a little weak, aside from that there isn't anything to look out for.

    Enjoying the speakers yet? :'D

Not yet. I'm going to load software on it and give it a complete run through tomorrow.

If you ever get the itch to upgrade, I believe you can slap a new GPU in there up to maybe a GTX 1070? Congrats on your new machine. Even if a bit old now, it's still very capable.

Awesome machine, very capable. With the MXM GPU it should be compatible with a 120hz panel if that's something that interests you. Might already have one, I'm not super familiar with that model. Congrats!

The 870m is decent enough for the games that I play ATM.

If I did decide to upgrade the GPU then I'd probably go with a 970 or 980m.

No it's not compatible with 120Hz panel. It's Optimus based so will only work through the LVDS 60Hz panel. Still you can output via hdmi (1.4) or display port 1.2, which enable to play on 1440p or 4k panels.
To my knowledge, only GT60 has a possibility to run 2k or 3k panel with specific cable. But as they are rare, they are super expensive...

The only thing I heard was about the dedicated buttons under the screen not working correctly in windows 10 (driver issue) and fans dying after a few years... standard stuff... Since it is older do keep an eye on temps, you might want to do a repaste if the previous owner did not. And a proper clean of the fans etc.
