I jumped on it as soon as I saw they were selling it with the 120hz option earlier. I had been on the fence and posted in a few threads and researched a ton, but I think this model is a good balance for what I want. I wanted something as powerful (or more) than my desktop but portable enough to take overseas. I overshot what I originally wanted to spend by hundreds but I think it's worth having something that won't feel outdated in 2 years. Outside of gaming I plan to use it for data science/programming work, as well as video editing and amateur game development.

I'll post more updates as the order processes.

Awesome order, that screen is awesome. Once you experience that smoothness of 120hz, it will be difficult use a lower refresh rate screen. The smoothness is out of this world in everything , be it the Windows animations, to movies, and / or playing games

Also, good selection on the Intel AC 8265, that's what I'm using and it's simply the best WLAN card I've ever used! no disconnections, MU-MIMO support, and better range than the previous Intel AC 8260

Interested to see how this goes and your review of the unit :)

Welcome to the HIDevolution bandwagon  :D

Looks like a pretty nice configuration you've got there. I agree about the 120hz completely. Let us know what you think when it arrives!

We'll race to see who gets their system first. :) I'm following your thread because any additional knowledge I can gain is always welcome.

Definitely. Once I have more stuff to say I will probably post more. Right now it sounds like it's weeks away from being built. In the meantime I ordered 2 960 Evo drives as my Linux and Windows OS drives, and a 1TB SSD for games/storage. I'm gonna research what filesystem works best on NVMe's on Linux since it's my first time using them. Or, if I end up using FreeBSD I will just use ZFS.

I'll be interested in your findings vis-a-vis NVMe. Generally my filesystem of choice on Linux right now is XFS, but I haven't researched that as a choice specifically on SSD rather than mechanical. Linux can support ZFS, too, but I am not sure if that's an option on /boot without some gymnastics.

Looks like I just hit Pre-Production. Getting excited! Also had good luck with my back-order from Amazon on one of my 960 Evos, as it will be here this week so I won't have to worry about it missing my laptop order. The only other thing I'm waiting on is the smaller 960 Evo, which I plan to use entirely for Linux or FreeBSD.

Lucky you. Mine is still in "Pending Review". I sent a check last week, but it may not have hit their mailbox yet.
