I just received my MSI GS60. Haven't opened it yet but once I do, I was wondering what are some first "to-do's" that people have to prep their machine.

I know people run 3dmark tests, but is that just to make sure your machine is running on par with other machines?

So what are the things that people do once they get their new machine?

    e.g.:
    Run performance test
    Uninstall [bloatware]
    Install new Anti-virus software
    Calibrate monitor
    Setup in bios / Windows

Anyone have their personal "checklist" they'd like to share?

    Thanks!

Do the backup disks; I didn't and my system failed on the first day. Had to buy a Windows DVD (didn't want to send back and wait for weeks).

It's to make sure the machine is performing properly, but is also a good quick test to see if there are any obvious hardware faults with GPU, CPU, RAM etc. all working together. Monitor your temps during this process with HWMonitor or HWinfo64 (my personal favorite free option) for even better info.

    Enjoy your new machine!

    Yeah, this first.

Then install your favorite games and play them. Skip benchmarking, it's boring.

I did use MSI Afterburner and GPU-Z; they have temperature logging option and Afterburner shows if clockdowns do exist - don't remember about those HW ones.

    Thanks for the advice!

Any particular backup software you use? Or is there a Windows based one?

There should be MSI software for burning backup discs on the laptop.
