First off this is a great laptop, i got it by swaping my old laptop (Acer 6920g) for it.

    but i have a few question's

    1:
how come the GT-729 thread here is closed?

    2:
My scores on windows 7 are:
it only has 2GB ram DDR3
ime planning on upgrading it, would that make a big difference?

    3:
this MSI laptop seems sometimes a bit slow on responding.
could that be to do with the RAM?

    4:
also my hard drive score is a bit slow.
could that be because its only a 320GB 5400RPM 8MB cache?
(ime probably answering my own questions here)

    5:
with this laptop seeming a bit slow responding (when i say slow i mean when i right click something it will take a sec to show what my options are) because i did not Reinstall windows 7 and just swapped hard drives from the Acer 6920g to the MSI
Ime actually surprised it works (i though i would have to install again)

    6:
Before swapping the acer i took out the T9300 Dual core that was in and replaced it with a slow T5xxx.
would it be good to get a new CPU for the MSI (it currently has Q9000)

    7:
    can i overclock this Q9000?
(should I?) my Idol temps are at around 60c And the gpu is at 56c
Is that abit high? ive gave it a good cleaning and new thermal paste

    8:
the laptop needs new hinges and a screen bezel.
know where i can get them from?

sorry about all the questions. new to MSI

    thanks for reading

    1: its old
    2: 4GB is nice
    3: yes and hdd
4: get a 7200rpm 500gb drive like the wd black
5: possibly, does the hdd light come on when you do? How much ram is in use?
6: depends on your intended use
    7: not sure
8: Why go for this machine? Perhaps ebay?

I remember you thinking about doing this trade and posting about it, I think I encouraged you.

I don't know why the thread is closed. Probably because there are too many threads about the same laptop, its also the ms-1722, gx720, advent 7555 or something like that. Basically check some other owners threads with a 7 in them.

Yes, you should get 4gb of RAM, it should be like 30-40$. If you have 2x1gb you might just want to get a 4gb module to make it 5gb and later 8gb.

Most of your questions would be better answered in the hardware section.
Oh yea, you can swap out installations if they are the same chipset and HDD interface, like pm45 and SATA.
You should get a 7200 RPM drive if yours is getting full. Better yet get an SSD and stick your HDD in the optical drive bay as a secondary.

You can overclock the q9000 but I dunno if you should with those temps. Also I cant remember the PLL/guide. You can't change the multiplier so it depends on your RAM frequency which you will have to mess with to make it stable at higher frequencies, and also the voltage which may be difficult to change.

Good luck finding parts from the screen. Honestly you are better off finding a metal 17" lid, drilling holes and bolting the old hinges in.
Your hinges are NOT broken. They are made form extremely strong hardened steel, which may have be part of the problem. The hinges and LCD brackets are bolted to the plastic of the lid which is what breaks. It would be nice if your brackets were still good but thats doubtful.
Dell business lids are good, usually solid mag alloy. Precision m6400 might work pretty well.

    thanks for the reply

i think ive found the reason for it being so slow

in the resource monitor its showing alot of hard faults (up to 100 or more)
the ram usage is at about 1000MB being used

    its a 2gb one

your right it is the actual plastic the hinges screw too, the hinges are fined
anyway ive kept it plugged into the tv so not all that bad

played crysis all on highest and the temps was only at around 65c when i came off (about an hour on it)
so maybe something aint reading right
