    hi,
my x410 came with win7, and the hotkeys (eco mode, external monitor switch, brightness, volume etc) all displayed icons when engaged.
i then switched to classic mode within win7, and although the hotkeys still work, there was no onscreen indication.

ive now installed xp over win7 and same prob.

anyone know how to get the icons back ?,ive looked on msi site but seems no software for hotkeys.

catalyst seems to offer no options to tinker with the hotkeys either.

without the indication icons i find it difficult to set levels that i want, and its partic annoying trying to hook up to a tv via hdmi when ive gotta wait till ive cycled through all availiable modes till i get to the one i want.with the icon i could go straight to it.

    cheers

1st of all , Why Xp over windows7 ? :p Anyway , all you need is SCM (System Control Manager). But i doubt there's an Xp version out there

thanx for replys, im downloading that now, cheers.

as for xp over win7, i may be wrong but i think im getting slightly better battery life now, but not tested properly.
but deffo my old progs now run without any hiccups.
i did make a boob installing xp though, i deleted the msi preinstalled recovery partition ! (win7) so now i cannot go back to win7, ah well, xp suits my needs fine.

Well, you could still go back to Windows 7 by downloading it from the web (or borrowing someone's Win7 DVD), putting it on a bootable external DVD or a usb key, then installing it using the serial number on the bottom of the laptop. Then you'd have to download the drivers and such from the MSI website.

I have turned off Aero on my X400 and it seems to help the battery life on Win7.
