It's a well balanced machine with a focus on price/performance.
The 670M is based off the older fermi architecture so runs a bit hotter than the 660M but is still noticeably faster and the better cooling in the MSI also helps counter that. It's also upgradable to at least the 680M in the future.
The 3610QM is a decent partner to the graphics and while again is upgradable should last you at least another graphics upgrade before you would go up to something like the 3740QM.
It's got a lot of ram but it is fairly cheap so if the price difference is small it wont hurt.
The 500GB HDD is reasonable but adding an SSD even just as a caching drive would be your first future upgrade just to help make the machine feel snappy and quickly boot.
Otherwise as a whole MSI machines do offer decent sound and keyboard
What you would get with that machine is a well balanced machine which will do well as it is and also has the scope for future upgrades. -

MSI Whitebook barebones models have a low starting price because they have less included than the branded models plus an all plastic case and different touchbar.
If you have your own OS to install and can live with the 1 year warranty administered by the reseller over the 2 year branded model warranty from MSI with a 1 year global warranty plus an Accidental Damage Warranty then the Whitebooks are the way to go .
In some instances the price difference between 15.6" and 17.3 inch in very close.
Do all your detective work before buying and contact resellers directly to get their best deals.
Gentech PC and Power Notebooks are 2 dealers I suggest you contact before buying anything.
ADD a Windows 7 or 8 OS plus an equal warranty and you may come close to the branded model's price.
Is this a good gaming laptop?
