Is the steelseries keyboard really worth it on a 16f3?

I'm looking to pick up a 16F3 most likely and I keep debating about the Steelseries keyboard. If I get it without it I can pick up the barebones around $820 and am capable of installing everything myself. I can't seem to find a place that sells the barebones with the option of having the steelseries keyboard upgrade. So other than the fun color changing backlights, what is the difference between the steelseries and the stock keyboard?

Basically the keyboard upgrade is for mainly the backlit capability. I'm not quite sure of the steelseries vs non-backlit keyboard quality goes, but both are chicklet style. Some people think the steelseries keyboard gives a tactile feel, and some are running into problems with the keyboard. All in all, I think it just boils down to whether you think backlighting is important or not :)

As an owner of the GT60, I will say that I'm not at all convinced the steelseries is a good choice for touch typing. The keyboard does have decent positive feedback (both tactile and audible), but there are issues with missed characters unless you hammer on the keys pretty hard.

Good for gaming perhaps, but a recipe for RSI if you need to do a lot of typing.

Well I ended up ordering a 16F3 with the steelseries. Luckily I don't plan on doing any sort of major typing (yay for being done with college) and if I do that is what I have my desktop for anyways. In the end I was snagged into spending the extra $75 by the bright shiny colors.

Would it be possible to take this keyboard and drop it in the 16F2? I don't care about the backlighting, but I've heard that it's a superior typing experience.

You could drop it into a 16F2 if you don't care about the backlighting. That little ribbon cable that supplies the power for the lights MIGHT give you a little hassle tucking it under the keyboard but it shouldn't be too much to worry about.

I leave the decision up to the individual user if they wish to compare keyboards. ;)
