I have a MSI 1651 ID3 barebone. (finally got it working yesterday :D thanks guys). Whenever i turn it off and i leave the power cable in, the usb is still powered. For example, my external hard drive stays on even after my laptop is shut down. But when i unplug the power cable from the laptop, the hard drive immediately loses power. Is there something wrong with my laptop? Its not a big deal but seems kind of weird as i never experienced this problem with any other laptop. Do any of you guys have the same problem? Let me know, Thanks!

It's like that. I noticed it too since my mouse is still getting power, and honestly, I like it. It doesn't provide power through the USB when it's off the AC adapter, but I take advantage of this to charge my MP3 player and phone overnight without having the notebook on. I believe there is another laptop that had this feature, and was advertised with it.

Cool! the only thing is i don't like it my external hard drives still running but i guess i can just unplug it. It can be a good feature for charging mp3 players like you said though. :)

That's Compal, it has a port that can supply electricity through a button when the laptop is in Off stage.

My Thinkpad does that so I can still charge my Blackberry while I have it turned off. Glad to know this will do it as well.

    If you have Vista installed:

You can change the behavior of the USB port so it will turn off when on a/c and shut down.

Go to power options in the control panel, choose the plan you are currently on and select change plan settings.

Then go to change advanced power settings, expand USB settings, expand USB selective suspend settings.

You can then change the "on battery" enabled/disabled and "plugged in" enabled/disabled.

Change "plugged in" to enabled then save and exit, the ports should shut down when the pc is shut down now.
