Is it possible to use GS63VR without battery?

Hello.

I am thinking of buying this laptop and am asking whether you can use the laptop without a battery in it? Would the laptop freak out? I see from pictures that the battery is not accessible without removing the bottom panel. I also see from pictures that after removing said bottom panel, it is possible to take the battery out? The only reason I am asking this is because I am using this as a desktop replacement and it's going to be plugged in 99.8% of the time, so there's no need to leave the battery in there. I want to extend the life of the battery for that .2% time that I am going to use it. Silly, I know.

I know this legit sounds like I'm crazy but I have done this before in the past with my old laptops where I drain its battery to ~40% then leave it in the refrigerator and they've all done fine when I took them out with a large majority of the cells still functional after 4-5 yrs! Couldn't be able to say the same if it was plugged in at 100% the whole time.
Edit: Just realized this is a lipo battery. Do not store in a fridge!

 

On my M17X there is a keyboard shortcut to disable battery charging, perhaps the MSI has something similar?

 

You should be able to unplug the connector that gives power from the battery to the motherboard. Not too sure about taking the battery out though, as at least on my GT72, it's stuck down with adhesive, not screwed in. On my model it's also hard to reach, however the connector itself is immediately accessible when you take the back cover off.

 

There's no hot key to disconnect the battery, so as Dimitris mentioned, you will have to disconnect the battery physically by dismantling the notebook to access the inside wiring, and then disconnect it. It will not be convenient and it is also risky if you need to do this all the time.

 

In my experience, even when using it plugged in to the wall, these batteries last a long enough while before getting damage. Unless you plan on keeping the battery for 4 years under 40% charge at cold temperatures, sealed in vacuum, to avoid degradation over years.

My old GT60 from 2013, with normal battery use, and abut 60% plugged in to the wall total time, still have around 50+ battery life left (around 40% battery wear) and that laptop is over 4 years old.

In additional context, my previous GX660R from 2010, lasted 6 years before the battery died completely.
