Is it possible to connect an mSATA drive for GP60?

    Hello,

I have just ordered the GP60 Leopard-009 through a reseller. In the attached file you can see my specs.

During customization, I had to choose between these three options

    • no RAID (1st drive as primary boot drive, 2nd drive as storage drive)
    • RAID 0 (striping) - MSI Super RAID
    • RAID 1 (redundancy)

Of course, as seen in the attachment, I went with the first option (no RAID). I'm afraid that by doing so I can no longer connect SSDs through the mSATA ports.

If that's the case, is it easy to do RAID in the future?

    Thank you!

All motherboards are the same for the system, the slots will be there, so should the screw to secure the drive.

Yes, that's correct. However, I've heard that some GP60 owners have not been able to install SSDs through the mSATA ports due to the area being so small. Does this have anything to do with the RAID configuration?

Area too small? It looks pretty open to me.

btw. only the current 2P* Series with Maxwell GT840M has a mSATA Slot. The old 2O* Series with Kepler GT740M has no mSATA Slot.

You can not install regular SSD into it so that is true the space is too small. You need to specifically get a mSATA drive. If you just plan on adding a mSATA later you do not need RAID since you want two identical drives to do RAID.

    Thank you very much :)
Correct. Mine is GP60 2PE Leopard. I understand that it has the new m2Sata slots and not the regular mSata. Are there any m2Sata SSDs out there?
    That's a relief. Thank you :)

I don't think this model uses the m.2 drives. You can contact MSI sales to be sure. If it's touting the standard "mSATA III" drives, you can find those for sale fairly easy and install it yourself (also fairly easy). :)
