I just recieved my gx640 on Thursday, and so far I'm liking it. All I've played on it is WoW, and it seems to be running well. I've read a lot abot flashing bios and driver updates, and i'm really skeptical about it.

Is it nesesary to do it? Will it really improve my performance a noticible amount to be worth any risks? I'm not too good with this kind of stuff.

If you're not comfortable flashing bios/firmware/vbios then DON'T. A lot of the flashes are "needed" and sometimes it's better to take a known evil that you have in the old bios that take your chances with a new one.

If you just got yours on Thursday you might already be up to date anyways. Check ur vbios number in GPU-Z and tell us what it says.

I'm actually not on it right now. I'm at work, but when I get off i'll be sure to check.

    Thanks.

Can I update drivers without flashing?

Yep drivers are easy updates, just install it like you would any other program. Depending on whether you believe if it matters or not you can just install new drivers over the old ones

I just thought I had to update my BIOS before installing new drivers. Cool, thanks.

MSI recommends flashing the VBIOS (graphics card) before installing ATI's 10.7 drivers. Other than that, you're good.

Did they mention any particular reason why? I didn't and I'm running 10.7. No problems... yet

No idea. MSI aren't usually good at, you know, explaining stuff.

Tell me if I need to upgrade and what I should upgrade to.

I'm getting about 1.75 hrs battery life with internet browsing. Screen's light levels are about 80 to 85% (can't read anything if the screen is too dark).

    Here's my info:

    Bios Version: E1656IMS.106
    BIOS Build: 02/12/2010
    EC Version: 1656EMS1 Ver 4.06
    EC Build: 12/15/2009

    Thanks.
