180W adaptor: 825mhz max stable, 835mhz max benchmark complete (reliably)
150W adaptor: 835mhz max stable, 850mhz max benchmark complete (reliably)
It seems my original (delta) 150W adaptor is quite happy to power my system and is not even getting that hot :/

not surprising if you ask me! I get readings of 145w at load with my DXR!
generally they're made to game while charging the battery! if you were benchmarking while charging the battery you'll see the adapter reaching to it's limits! of course non of us will do that! -

I notice the battery charging will turn off when gaming (with either adaptor or 560M/570M).
You must remember that my 570M has a 45% overclock and is overvolted. I have seen power consumption at the wall of 174W, but maybe this 180W adaptor is just very lossy. -

wow then I hope it will last while gaming for hours! good to know if it will

From what i've seen other than targus almost every ac adapters out there are made by delta electronics.
Where did you get yours meakerz. Maybe take some time for the adapter to get used to the machine? -
Interesting results Meaker. How are you taking measurements of watts used?
anyone know of an adaptor that will work with the GT780 that produces 220W or above I know dell do some and they do a 330w -
Dell has a 210W brick, and a Slim adapter with 240W output. Maybe you can change the tip to make it compatible.

5.5mm (outer diameter) x 2.5 (inner diameter)
Weird that the 150W gives more o/c capability. I will have a look tonight, just got my 6990m and still the two power supplies (150w stock from Delta, and the 180w adapter I just bought, see pic:
Do you guys own this one ?
edit: lol reply at the same time as you jame5 -

That's the 180W I got too.
-
Was the battery connected when you ran the benchmarks ?
Are you now going back to your 150W power supply then ? -

I think I might, it's not getting too hot and it's more stable.

its very easy to modify the dell 240w adapter to work with MSI machine. You just need to take off the screws, pull out the covers of the adapters. Then use a soldering iron to set loose the 3 cables on the dell one and 2 on the MSI adapter. Each of them have label printed next to the hole you cant miss. (excuse my terrible english)

Yep, pushing the 180W adaptor I get slow downs (GPU usage falls while clocks remain the same) while I don't see these with the 150W.
-
I wonder how my dell 230w adaptor will do once it turns up -

Well the 150W adaptor could be under rated a bit and just supply a cleaner voltage.
-
if you encounter a slowdowns with the 180w then I think your PSU is defected! mine never goes below 99% GPU usage with the 180w! GPU was clocked at 700mhz!

If i take my GPU clock down then it gets better.
Interesting.....
