    My 1651 arrives tomorrow.

I know where I can get a 1722-ID2 for $400 in black & red w/ DVD (but if anyone knows where I can get it cheaper, I'd love to hear it). But, I'm not really interested in WSXGA+. What's the feasibility of picking up a WUXGA 17" on ebay and popping it into this? If I could do this, I could very easily see myself giving up my tower.

(Or, I could just find someone selling the 1722 in WUXGA...but they've not been on ebay)

No, you can't take a 17in screen and put it in a 15 in laptop

    of course I can't. I'm not stupid.

The 1722 comes in a model that has a WUXGA panel, but all I've seen on ebay are the WSXGA+ models. I don't know of any places selling them for the ebay-ish prices.

I'm wondering if there would be any issues in popping in a 17" WUXGA in to the 1722, replacing its WSXGA+

i think hes getting a 1651, 15.4" and the 1722, 17" and the 17" he wants to upgrade the monitor to WUXGA panel. Not put the 15.4" in the 17" or the 17" in the 15.4" so pretty much the topic here is if hes able to buy the 17" with WSXGA+ res and upgrade it to the WUXGA.

If he's getting the WUXGA from another MSI laptop, I don't see why it wouldn't work. I replaced my 1651's WXGA with the WSXGA+ from the GX620 with zero hassle. I'm just not sure if you can use a screen from another manufacturer.

It wouldn't be another MSI laptop. If I could find that MSI laptop with WUXGA I'd have bought it instead.

I'd be looking for some LG panel (they've always been better than Samsung for me) off ebay.

I think I'll just skip it and stick with what I've got.

I'll save 17" WUXGA and quad core for whenever a Nehalem laptop comes out. I figure by then I'll be ready to upgrade from my Thinkpad.

The LCD panels are pretty much standard, you can easily replace the LCD panel with another manufacturer just like Compal can be replaced with DELL's. But I would say stick to recent notebook models.
