This might be better served on the "what notebook should I buy" forum, but I wanted to get responses from real MSI owners.

I'm getting a new laptop next month and I've been following the gt725 for like 6 months at this point. I've also been a big fan of macbook pro's for a while. My questions is, side by side, which computer would provide the most bang for my buck?

It's a choice between the gt725-74 for a cheap $1349 with free shipping and the MBP 2.53Ghz (with applecare) for an expensive $2248 with free shipping.

I know that the HD 4850 blows the crap out of the 9800 GT and I know that the cpu in the MPB is noticeably better than the p8600, and applecare warranty blows the crap out of any factory warranty I could get.

In short, which would you buy?

Actually, it's a 9600M GT, and the P8400 is only slightly slower than the P8600 (2.4GHz vs 2.53GHz), but this disadvantage is removed when you use the MSI turbo to bring it anywhere from 2.64GHz (10% OC) to 2.88GHz (20% OC), you could also replace the CPU. Warranty-wise, you could pick up the MSI from somewhere like XoticPC (top of resellers list).

So, in conclusion, you get a better specced system (MBP GPU only goes up to 9600M) the other specs are about equal (MSI still a little ahead) for half the price ($1600 on XoticPC's site) of a MBP ($3200, 17" for fair comparison, $2500 for 15"). It's absolutely no contest, MSI wins.
