MSI GT72 - 4710hq/980m 8gb
19hrs in fine then back to back crash [41 power kernel] shutdowns yesterday ...then the same just websurfing. I returned 4710HQ to stock and Wolcen crashed system before the menu screen [edit: ...and wouldn't turn on the first few times I hit the power button].
I'm on it now so I have some use.
WHAT WOULD YOU DO IN THIS SITUATION?

I have been planning to upgrade with Ampere. I can pick this up today [$630 on sale, $200 off] and I have $200 in gift cards. I can use it until Ampere arrives, then sell or hand-me-down.
2: Play PS4 and wait for mobile Super [2060 or 2070] and Ryzen mobile 4000, Skip Ampere.
3: Sink money troubleshooting ...this doesn't sound like a good plan to me.

If it wasn't for the same crash just websurfing, I wouldn't be that concerned. I did [just now since posting thread] give it a light duty game [poker night 2] and it stayed on. [edit: when it crashed today with Wolcen, it wouldn't power on again the first few button presses.]
I still think it's generally on its way out though, but it's working enough to reach Ryzen 4000/mobile Super at least ...probably.Last edited: Feb 20, 2020 -

I you have access to a voltmeter check the power output at the barrel plug.Set the voltmeter to measure DC power volts and amps.Insert the red lead inside the barrel plug and the black on the outside of the plug.
Compare the readings with the output listed on the power brick.
How's the condition of your boot drive. Is it full? -
When was the last time you cleaned out the laptop from dust and replaced the thermal paste?
I'd always check those first before doing anything else.
If you hadn't done either in a while, it might be noteworthy to open up the laptop, clean the dust from it (along from the fans and exhaust vents (and of course area between the exhaust vent and fan/cpu) and replace the thermal paste (maybe use GC gelid extreme or Conductonaut).
I think Wolcen killed my laptop... what should I do?
