I just bought this and am pretty happy with it so far but I'd like to make sure both the vga and cpu fans are fully functioning. Is there an app I can use to double check? Are there any other diagnostics I should run? I have a short window in which to return this if I find anything wrong with it.

EDIT: I installed "Speedfan" and while it shows the temp for everything it doesn't actually show fan speed ...

Look for an app called slientoption on MSI forum's that will allow you to control the fans and also monitor them as well as temps.

Thanks! Found that app and installed it. As far as I can tell it lets you set fan speed but doesn't actually give a current reading on fan speed?

The reason I'm concerned about this is I can clearly hear the fan coming out the left rear vent of my laptop, but the right vent is silent. My understanding is there are two fans on this laptop and I'm concerned that one might not be working ....

It's normal, 1 side is not as big as the other. Also you got a turbo fan mode on your notebook.
you have 3 buttons above your keyboard, press on the first one on the left, it will put the fanspeed to 100%. You'll notice that your GPU fan is louder than the CPU fan, since it's bigger.

EDIT: nvm seems like both fans are about the same size, should be equally as loud when you put the fans on max speed.

Also you can download hwinfo64 to check your temperatures.

YES! Pressed that button and now I can hear and feel the right rear fan just fine. Thanks for putting my mind at ease! I guess this means my laptop hasn't gotten hot enough to trigger the right fan? How hot should it get before the fan comes on do you think?

Depends on your fan curve, given that the GPU didn't do anything it obviously shouldn't make any noise. As I said, best way to check if thermals etc. are fine is to download Hwinfo64, download Prime95 (CPU) and Mafia 3 demo(GPU) while having HWinfo64 recording max and min temps.

Hey, sorry it took me a while, but I downloaded and installed all three programs. Tried running Mafia III and was impressed with how well it ran on the laptop. Is there a specific test you want me to run to check temps?
