    Hello

I will buy a new GT780 Laptop, but I want to upgrade GT780R DVD drive to Blu Ray Drive. May I buy a standard SATA Blu Ray Drive and reuse the Bezel or I need buy a special Blu Ray model?

Is it easy remove the Bezel and reinstall in the New Drive?

    Thanks in advance.

Usually the bezel can be removed and attaches to most slim optical drives.

I've thought about doing this to my 683 as well (Blu ray burner). Are these drives fairly standard then? Just buy a slim optical drive and it should work?

I was trying to avoid having a bunch of extra drives left over trying to find one that fits and works correctly.

It's pretty easy to remove the original bezel and put it on a new drive. That's exactly what we do when we do upgrades here. When getting a new drive get a standard notebook ODD. They make "slim" notebook drives which you dont want for that model. Not to be nitpicky, you said a "standard SATA blu ray drive" just wanted to point out dont get a standard as in a desktop one :)

    Thanks for you answer,

For the GT780R model, Do you know if a slim blu ray drive like the BT10N from LG or Panasonic Uj240 could work? Or maybe do you know which model could work.

    Thanks in advance.

The ones we use are and recommend are the Sony Optiarc BD-5750H, the Panasonic you listed seems like it will work as well, the LG might be too small as it says "slim" but it could work as well. I cant really tell how the manufacturers are deciding to put slim or not. They list the same dimensions but some say slim others don't
