How to fix Chroma Tune Configuration Error?

Brand new MSI Dominator GT72 purchased pre-loaded with fresh install of Windows 10 gives start-up error 100% of the time.

    Exact error message:

    Chroma Tune Configuration Error
The files native.bin and backup.bin do not exist:
    C:\ProgramData\Portrait Displays\Truecolor\native.bin

    Screenshot of error message:

Have you tried re-installing the MSI True Color utility at all? I would start there and see if it corrects the problem of the missing file.

Thank you... Yes, I tried and completed reinstall/update. I was also suggested to "uninstall" and reinstall.

Both options same result and any new utility errors out "system not supported"

    MSI says; talk to "manufacturer"
Portrait Display says; no MSI True Color software available to public - you have to go to MSI support.

So, now I have brand new MSI with NO True Color because I can't find compatible software or anyone that will support me. Big circle jerk. (But the error message is gone - not really my end goal though)

Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I looked around, and on other forums/sites, someone said they installed the true color file for a GS60 and it worked (on a GT80, but might work for some reason?). Not sure why that would be, but it might be worth a shot I suppose. Have you checked to see if the native.bin file is somewhere on your computer, just in the wrong location? Search your computer and see if it just needs to be moved to the proper folder.

Maybe check with the company you purchased the computer from, and see if they have their own tech support channel. Otherwise, if you have a GT72 with G Sync, those should be the models that has it and maybe reach out to MSI again. This page only shows the G Sync models as having it.

I wanted to thank you for your effort and help.

I followed your advice and was able to locate the Windows 10 Utility for True Color on the MSI website for my exact model: GT72 DOMINATOR G (GTX 970M)

However, upon download and installation I get "system not supported." Currently, I have NO True Color software, as I had to uninstall it due to the conflicts and error messages. A real shame, because that was a main factor of my buying decision. Im a website designer and monitor/color/consistency is a huge factor for me to produce brand consistent websites.

Now, Im back to the ground zero and MSI is blaming Portrait Displays (True Color) even though they advertise, promote and charge me for the "ultimate color experience with included True Color Technology"

Anyway, the point here is to thank you for your sincere attempt to help me. Hopefully someone will be able to offer a solution here. Otherwise, Ive been cast off by MSI

Have you tried following up with MSI since the last time? Might be worth PMing MSIGeno who hangs out on the forums here and see if he might be able to check in to it, or posting in the thread for the MSI rep, as he checks that as well. But I would just check with MSI again and see if maybe there is any updates. Wish I had a better answer for you on why that isn't working though.

Hey, I had the same issue. Finally resolved it by disconnecting my monitors before running install. See instructions here: https://www.msi.com/asset/global/picture/faq/10015790@2016-0509-0326-040853@faq_0000000001735_en.pdf

Is your current OS the stock one? Or a clean install?

Really? What happened when you called their tech support? Is it US-based or other region?

Did you buy it from a reseller - and if so, were they not able to back you up/help you?
