Ok so im going to be buying an msi G series laptop soon, but im unsire what to get. Im deciding between the GT60 or GT70. Now this laptop will be for college but so i can still game. Ill also use it for LAN parties.

For the Lan parties i have no problem with the size factor at all. But what worries me is when i go to college, its not going to be portable enough.

So does anyone have any personal experience with a 17in G series in college?

If so, how do you feel about using it in class/carrying it around?

    Thanks.

According to tech specs, this machine is:
    14.97" (w) x 10.24" (d) x 1.77" (h)
    7.71 lbs with 9-cell Battery

Pretty well packed and portable, for a laptop I would say. I have heard many folks diggin' it for this reason and having no issues carrying it to class, etc.

The dimensions quoted by Xotic are for GT70 not GT60, in comparison to other desktop replacements i have used, I found my GT70 to be the best sized 17" ive used.

i hear mixed opinions from friends for its size, your best option would be to go to a retail store and get a feel for yourself, as I would say its more a personal preference then a fact.

No that was the GT60, the GT70 dimension is...

    16.85" (w) x 11.34" (d) x 2.17" (h)
    8.6 lbs with 9-cell Battery

Considering it's a Desktop Replacement the GT70 is less portable than the GT60. However it can be carried from point A to B preferably not commonly however. The GT60 would be more portable though.

If you are concerned about portability then the GT60 may be a better choice.

    Haha its cool.

Yeah see i feel like the Gt70 would be too big for college. Thanks for the input.

But maybe you saw that in June there will be a small update for the GT70. It's gonna have the 675M instead of the 670M so if you have the extra money for it you should rethink your decision. :)

Yes I did see this, as much as i would want it, i just dont have the money for it. If i want ill upgrade in the future but as of now, thats too much for me.

His decision is based on Portability and not based on Graphics Performance. The 675M won't make the GT70 less in weight. It would only add Graphical Performance but not increasing the portability of the laptop itself.

The GT60 would probably work a little better for the college student. It has a smaller footprint and is a little lighter (not by much) than the GT70.

A 15-inch laptop shouldn't take up anymore room than an open binder on your desk, combine that with a textbook in your lap and you should be set to take notes in a college class.

Save the 17-inch for outside of college use, I would recommend it more for an almost desktop replacement better suited for LAN parties.

That's just my 2 cents on it though.

I know your are asking about the GT70 but the GE70 is much
lighter if the weight is the portability issue.

If the US site is correct it is the lightest 17 I have seen at 5.95lbs.

Yeah i would love the 17 inch for lan parties, it would be really nice, but when i go off to college i just know im not going to like it.

Unless if i go with the 17 inch now, and then sell it and go for the 15 inch, since im not going to college for another year and 2 months. Anyways thanks for your input.

Yeah i definitely would but im trying to go for a way higher gpu then a 650m.
