MSI seems to have very good prices so how good are they built?
-
Love mine. Any shortcomings seem to be cosmetic (touch pad coating) and not functional. Some cracking has been reported on 627's, but it's far from common.
MSI's gaming series have excellent GPU's which they cool very effectively without heating the laptop up too much and relatively quietly at that. Check out the temps on the GT627 compared to an HP with a weaker GPU in these reviews...

I agree I love mine aswell, No problems here, build quality is perfect, screen is nice and vibrant. A lot of gaming power due to the ATi 4850. I also own the MSI 1722 ID2 and that's very good too. I will definitly purchase more MSI products in the future.

GT725 is brutal, upgradable, expandable, i could run out of words, there are some issues with 627, but they are nulled in the gt725
Except that dam touchpad coating however people have fully rubbed the matt coating off and it hasn't lost sensitivity at all -
It depends on what you're looking for. If you want good performance, good battery life and unbeatable price, then MSI laptops are for you
If you want the best looking notebooks with the best performance and power management, you can take a look at the Sony Vaio models or HP Pavilion series, but the price will be at least twice the one from MSI noebooks.
Speaking of MSI notebooks build quality, they are built reasonably good, but don't expect something extraordinary. If you want best build quality, again, look at HP or Sony notebooks. Cheers! -
I own an MSI GT627, and it's really great. MSI offers good performance/price lappy. The gaming series come with high spec and reasonable price. The cooler is awnsome. Although it has some minor issue such as a crack on the screen, the touchpad, keyboard and speakers, I still love it.
I don't think that HP or Sony can compare with MSI in that area. I know that a lot of HP laptop have overheated issue, and Sony just does a good job with small and expensive lappies. -
HP has nothing on MSI's gaming series like the GT725.. My GT725 is awesome I have not owned anything as powerful as my GT725 yet..
-
MSI is pretty good but sadly i have a budget laptop but its pretty nice but compared to Dell, HP, and Gateway its way better.
-
Hehe, budget laptops do the job, its an MSI
They are great machines, granted. -
Well I have a MSi EX625 and I love it. Probably the best laptop I've had, no problems just minor inconveniences like the off center touchpad and fn/ctrl buttons positions switched but otherwise I love this laptop. I'm staying with MSi.

The 1722 chassis (used in the MS-1722 ID1, ID2, GX720, GT725) is very sturdy and lightweight, grossly upgradable and cooled like a champ.
I like the fact that while gaming or running the system under load, the palm rests/keyboard don't turn into portable heaters. Some laptops heat up to the point where it becomes very uncomfortable and you find yourself avoiding the hot zones or you can't use them on your lap. I built my daughter a 1722-ID1 for her graduation gift, and she loves it. She totes it all over the place and uses it on her lap or a pillow and it runs cool and quiet while she plays the Sims 3.
In addition, they are VERY lightweight for all that they pack. You are talking ~ 7.3lbs -
I haven't gamed on mines yet so I feel like I'm neglecting my graphics card. Been too busy testing Windows 7, but back on Vista SP2 for now until Windows 7 release.
-
lol, its all good my friend. Did you run futuremark or 3dmark06 for vista 32 and windows 7? They should be pretty close but i'm just wondering.
-

-
Alright install 3DMark Vantage in a little bit. I will back will results.

Close excess processes and clean it up a bit, get up to date with drivers, turbo mode on, reccomended 3dmark06 settings 1280x1024? just the default hehe.
Sure you can break the 7k barrier -

The only reason i got my msi was because it was a good-priced barebone. If I was getting a complete notebook, nothing beats refurbished asus notebooks in terms of price/performance like this one:

Yeah vantage sucks for that, i cant run trial on my system
probably need a small native screen lol.
-
-
@catacylsm Well I like the interface for Vantage and that the fact it has DX10 related tests but other than that forget it. If it does not like my screen so be it
@bestbacon Yep I figured I was getting around the expected 3DMarks. I'm still going to try and hit 7K with native resolution. -
tell me how that goes boss.
