I really need a new shell for my GT70 (specs in sig). Does anyone know where to get a good price on one?

The story: The hinges on my screen froze, and now the screen just barely hangs there. I can't move it at all.

I purchased my GT70 from Gentech when it was brand new several years ago. I have since built an excellent gaming PC, and don't have as much use for my GT70 as a gaming machine (which is why I'm not interested in replacing it with something new). I still use the GT70 regularly, however, for recording and editing some content for YouTube, which it is excellent for.

I want to fix it, but can't seem to find the parts that LOOK the same, so I don't trust ordering them without some guidance or experience relayed from others who have had similar issues.

Have you reached out to MSI directly? They had this issue pop up a while ago on another GT series run and they were pretty good about helping their users out.

Haha, it's not that old... The worst they do is tell you nothing is available. You might need to be just a little persistent in trying to get an affirmative answer since it'll probably take a little checking on the rep's part that helps you. You might have the best luck emailing them with your S/N and telling them what your problem is and if they have any recommendations or replacement parts.

That's a good idea. I'll go home and get the SN at lunch and give them a call. Who knows, maybe they can help. :D

You can either get it new from MSI directly as they are the manufacturer, or you can check on eBay for the part possibly with various of conditions depending by seller.

Hey Kevin. Thanks for the reply. The thing that makes me nervous about the eBay stuff is I don't have the part numbers, and the screen bezels are always different. I've contacted MSI and they said they would get back to me Monday with the part numbers and estimate. :)

A little update...It is now Tuesday and I haven't heard anything from MSI. I will call them tomorrow if I don't hear anything by COB.

Good luck with MSI. This is a known issue and they dont give a ****. One of the hinges on my GT70 froze and broke the plastic studs out of the top cover. I had to buy new hinges and using epoxy putty fill the cavity and reattach the right hinge to the top cover. My laptop works and looks steam punk as fuk, but its still a ****ty thing to have happened with a laptop that gets barely used.

I'd like to see a pic of how you jerry rigged that with putty...

They were helpful enough and nice enough, but they just don't make the cover anymore. They still make the hinges though.

That's pretty neat that you were able to repair that.
