I've had my MSI 16F2 since last October, in January I installed a Crucial M4 128gb.

when I tried to reinstall windows, it wouldn't boot or it would freeze unless I set the bios sata mode to "IDE". even now if I set the sata mode to ahci or raid i get a BSOD on boot. when in IDE I get a clean 17-18 second boot.

There is a 1 TB WD drive installed in the second bay (data storage only, no boot.)

I'm now trying to hook up an external drive/4-port multiplier through the esata port. I think the secret would be setting it to ahci, but then it bsod's.

also of note: since setting it to IDE, I have to do a full reboot for an external drive to be recognized when plugged in (usb 2 or 3 and esata ports)

I'm willing to try a fresh install if I can get it to boot through ahci.

    specs:
    MSI Whitebook chassis 937-16F231-004
    NVIDIA GeForce GTX560M
    Intel Core i7 2760QM
    16 GB (4x4GB) Kingston hyperx
    128 GB Crucial M4
    1 TB Western Digital 5400rpm WD10JPVT
    Intel 6300 a/b/g/n
    razer mamba
    saitek eclipse II

    1. Boot to Windows in IDE mode.
    2. Open Registry Editor and navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\msahci.
    3. Right click on the Start registry DWORD and select Modify.
    4. Set the value to 0 and click OK.
    5. Now the Start setting should be set to 0.
    6. Reboot and enable the AHCI setting in your BIOS.

AHCI is pretty important, especially when You use SSD, as it enables come crucial functions like TRIM or NCQ. In IDE mode these functions are disabled.

ok that got ahci to work, and now i can install Intel rapid storage, but it appears as though this esata chipset doesn't have port multiplier tech, anyway i can that?

I have never heard of a port multiplier for SATA or eSATA.
